Fantastic day in the dunes!
Went out to Atlantis Dunes in Cape Town yesterday with the guys from Land Rover Experience. We had great fun. We had a Defender 110, a Disco 3, 3 Disco 4's and a FL2. The sand was extremely soft due to the hot and dry conditions but the vehicles performed amazingly well. My brother's D3 with his BFG tires look amazing and you could see it had better flotation than the D4's with 19" tires. I have Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac's and they performed well in sand. My 278KW V8 D4 was tricky due to weight, low profile tyres and masses of power. Too much right foot and she buried herself! By the end of the day I had worked out how much gas to give and there's a fine line between too much and not enough (spinning or sinking). The tall climbs requiring power and speed were a breeze!
The kids loved it and the guys from Land Rover Experience were amazing. Thanks to Pierre and Wynand.

Should be included in the next Disco3.co.uk Calendar - would make an interesting December shot for those of us stuck in the cold hemisphere!
