Hello All
I wonder have many of you experience of the active rear diff? In speaking to my dealer none of the stock D3's seem to have this option. Does it contribute to the off road ability in a significant way? The cost is not prohibitive so why is it not popular? If I get round to buying one of these vehicles is it going to be worth waiting 3 months for the privalage of ordering one with this option?

If you think you'll need it, it's a yes
the rear e-diff. basically extends the point where TC has to kick in, it helps mainain traction and momentum, whereas TC can only try and regain traction.
The main reason I changed mine was to get a rear e-diff.

The rear diff is well worth it. On loose gravel going up a steep hill one can really feel it "kick in" almost like a booster rocket. '06 LR3 4.4 V8 HSE Heavy Duty package, Satellite Radio, Luxury Package

If you want to drive offroad, or in severe winter conditions, it's a very useful aid in my opinion. Having a little 4x4 experience from earlier vehicles and the army, I decided to find a D3 with the active diff, and I haven't regretted it. When driving in difficult terrain I can monitor how the diff locks on the display, and at the same time feel how the car responds to it. It will not help you out of every situation, but it can give you those last few meters up the hill.

Nike (Just do it)
For anyone venturing offroad the electronic diff takes the D3 further with less stress on the TC and vehicle. 06 TDV6 SE with many LR and after-market extras. Used only on weekends and trips out west.
