Frickley 4x4 offroad centre |
|
Got a few hours to kill on sunday as swmbo is going disney with the lad. Anyone been to Frickley before. I have GG ATR's on but was wondering whether it is going to be a bit on the extreme side for the D3 on these?
Not too fussed if lots cant do just dont wanna pay the £25 entrance and find nothing suitable as they allow not road legal stuff?
Any advice welcome and of course if anyone else fancies it let me know

I dont know what frickley is like but be wary of all the uninsured and un mot'd vehicles that may turn up to an open pay and play.
many just tow their old wrecks to the site and others in cheaper little suzukis etc couldnt give a if they hit you or not...
I stopped going to pay and play places even when I had the old defender as the risk of some idiot hooning around and crashing into me or others was not worth the fun factor, I would never go in the D3 or D4..
check the place out first and see if they insist on production of vehicles insurance certificate woth offroad cover !!
If you have been there before then it may be absolutly fine, but just a word of warning if you havnt Duncan

Dunc
That is what worried me. Ive never been before so was trying to find out whether anyone else had and whether it is user friendly for our type of cars. As you say, in the event no one feeds back it prob isnt worth the risk. Might have to kill those few hours in the pub instead

it may be worth going and having a look - most places have a parking area so you can just observe to begin with Duncan

Been a couple of times with our '59 SII a few years ago - took the kids along so didn't do anything too adventurous though. There’s plenty there that the D3 would be fine with (might have to take mine there sometime – I would say this weekend & we could perhaps meet up, but I’m out on Sunday already). Totally agree with the other comments about the others there, but it’s a big site so you should be able to avoid them as they’ll be heading for the really claggy stuff – if it’s not frozen solid that is

Quite a harsh aggressive site, I'd wait a week and come up to Tong on the 9th

I think my confidence would be better with others around and with the rain over the past few weeks a think the decision is to give it a miss. I think a change of plan and possibly the Tong open day on the 9th december as know that course well and am happier driving round that one.
Andy - I take it you will be marshall up there again on the 9th?.
Any one else fancy a pre christmas play in the mud

Been a few times to Frickley, granted not in a D3 but my D1 and yes I agree there's a lot of un-motable stuff there but they mainly like getting stuck in the lake and the big stuff, they will be well away from the areas that you would take the D3.
It's different to Tong in the fact that you can actually have a good laugh and don't need to show your shoe size to get on, plus my tyres on the D1 would probably fail their strict measurements.
Might have to take the D3 there myself one day...

The only thing I've ever run in to at an off road site was a brand new D4 HSE coming up the other side of a hill
Both ended up with broken bumpers and fog lights....difference being my D3 was my D3, their D4 was an LR promotional car which they had been loaned to aid with charity fundraising, and specifically told NOT to take it off road
I wonder how they explained the broken front end and the fact that the car was full of sand from Yarwell! 2014 D4 XS
