Privacy Glass Factory v. Dealer?

I tried searching for this and got 100's of hits without being able to find what I was looking for... Basically, I am being offered a dealer fitted privacy glass on a new MY07 HSE. The car is in the showroom and ready to go... What are the advantages of Factory fitted Privacy Glass if any? Also, I am hoping they will keep the UV out... Is this true?

Regards,

Catch

Catch,

I went for factory fit privacy glass as I have small children and didn't want to get scratches - I'm very happy with it. The dealer preferred to offer the tint film as it allowed them the option of 'backing out' the privacy glass if a sale fell through, leaving them back with a stock vehicle. I insisted on factory fit; time will tell whether I can get tinted glass replacements without issues when one gets broken.

I believe some tint films provide a measure of shatter protection too; though I doubt a dealer would have gone down such an expensive path.

edit : Oh, and I believe ALL the glass contains some tint and all reduces UV, privacy or not...

Hi Catch, All the glass, including the roof I think, on LR3(D3)/RR (at least in NA) is "laminated" & provides 98% block of harmful UV (compared to around 66% with tempered glass) pre-tint - also has more benefits for safety & such. Here's some info on it: http://www.glassglobal.com/news/laminated_...-6123.html

There is factory tint on all but my front side windows - on those it was dealer installed, and yes there is a small scratch on the passenger one Confused. If I were you I'd go with factory installation....

Sideview. I wish the UK glass was all laminated! It's not even an option here Rolling Eyes I'm having to look into having security film fitted to ensure the undesirables remain outside the vehicle.

Stapldm - Regarding getting replacement privacy glass if/when needed..don't think you'll have a problem. When my D3 glass was smashed in a break-in, Autoglass did offer both 'standard' and 'privacy' options.

I don't have it Rolling Eyes ...but visually... Factory fit privacy glass is far better as it hides the window frames... whereas dealer film can't because it only covers the glass areas on the inside of the motor Wink
