My wheel alligment nightmare

I've had my 2007 D3 for nearly 3 years now and I've never had long lasting good wheel alligment. For various reasons I've replaced all upper and lower arms, tie rods, track rods, rod rods, the lot. There is as far as I'm concerned no reason my wheel alligment cannot be set up correctly and stay that way.

My suspension is calibrated perfectly and when I go for wheel alignment I set tight tolerance and leave the engine running. I've been to 3 separate garages with all the gear and my alligment is out within 1000miles.

Wheel alligment is now built into my annual running costs which is ridiculous.

Can anyone suggest what might be going wrong here.

I'm running AT Cooper Zeon LTZ 285/60R18 and really starting to suspect them as part of the issue, a long with, despite the entire new suspension system, a rough ride.

My 2004 discovery 2 is a much smoother ride..

Cheers.[/b]

guessing here :

1. when you fitted the lower arms, you need to tighten the bolts at the normal road height of the suspension. probably irrelirant

2. Did you replace the lower arm bolts.

https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/kit660-g...3849-p.asp

They have 2 grooves in them, I noticed one of my groves was worn into the thread and I guess that means the setting can move.

Next time you have it aligned, straight afterwards use a paint marker to mark the correct positions.
6 months later, check it and see if the dots have moved. if they have you can re-adjust and you know what's moving and can resolve

I need to get mine aligned next week, Any tips? use hunter?

Yeh all bolts have been replaced and hub centres height correct relevant to wheel arches when torques.

Marking it is an excellent idea. 6 months is optimistic lol. I'm just reluctant to get it done again until I know why it keeps failing. I can't really advise on what equipment should be used as I have had no success with various types.

All I'll say is tight tolerance set with iid and ideally engine running with all doors closed. Some say a full tank of fuel but can't see how that's relevant to air suspension models.

sometimes the welded washers break from the bolt and you won't be able to tell unless you remove them again.

The place might have all the gear, but no idea how to use it.. Find a reputable place, it should not need doing every six months, its 3 years since I had mine done, I have been off road afew times in that time and its still good.

Flack Thumbs Up

Yeah haven't ruled out incompetency at all though was hoping 3 good garages might have done. The bolts are almost certainly ok. I had the body off over winter and everything was at least well inspected, at most refitted.

I'm gonna give everything a good inspection in the next few days during her 7k service and then find and go to a 4th garage.

If anyone has any recommendations in the Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire area, I would gladly take them.

Ive used Bush in Sleaford in the past, they were recommended by the guys at Old Forge Garage when they were at Leadenham.

Also used the place on Tritton Road, but didnt rate them, as they didnt have a clue how to get the car out of tight tolerance mode.
 Must stop buying shiny toys....
