Auto wipers playing up?
Over the last few months the auto wiper function seems to be not playing properly. When in the auto position and with the sensitivity switch set to max the wipers just aren't being triggered enough. Worst in lower sensitivity settings on the stalk. This is happening worst in drizzle with the wipe being well after when it should have swept, often then switching to full wiping as opposed to intermittent. Was wondering if it's the sensor not sensoring enough or the twiddly bit on the switch is having issue. Nothing obvious on the windscreen where the sensor is, could that be the issue? Any similar experience out there, hopefully an easy and cheap fix.

Shhhhhhhh, you are now taxing my techie knowledge to the max. Even I know it's just the front half of the body that's taken off for front wipes, rear stays in place unless the rear wipers are paying up!!

In that case Del have you done the full shorted-leads reset as it resets the logic?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Haven't done that, sounds like a way forward. From what I understand it's disconnect both of the battery terminals and link the two cables to the battery (not the battery itself) for 10 seconds or so with something like a socket set extension bar??

Rotory swith on the RHS steering column stalk. Looking down the stalk turning it clockwise is max sensitivity. Assuming you have auto wipers.

I think the book says 30 seconds for the shorting reset. Also a good idea to put something non conductive over the battery terminals before messing above them with long metal things. I use a bit of rubber mat or plastic bottle caps placed over the battery terminals.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Will do it for 60 seconds & cover up the battery with something rubber or plastic. Will it have any other effects? SWMBO's convinced I'll make a hash of it and the car will not go afterwards, nothing like a bit of faith in my mechanical abilities!!

That's quite embarrassing
I thought that was the intermittent gap between wipes on the rear wiper !
I've just been out to look at the stalk and the picture of the screen does indeed match the shape of the screen on the heated front window switch ?
I've had it cranked forwards because I thought this was the longest gap setting on intermittent for the rear, when in fact I've had it on maximum sensativity,
Well that's it, I'll have to keep it for a bit longer until the novelty of playing with that switch wears off Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Yep, the car that just keeps on giving !
I'm expecting more donations from the D3 in the next week in the form of worn front suspension bushes and corroded brake pipes
MOT time, it's the 3rd one next weekend, the last two its sailed straight thro, they have been knocking more and more this year,
Maybe if I show them my new switch it will impress them
The MOT testers I mean not the bushes Only dead fish go with the Flow !
