Webasto Thermotest software. No response from FBH.
Hi,
I need some advice from those of you that have used the Webasto thermotest software with an OBD connector. I bought an OBD and wired it as per the post by IanNP, ensuring the cars can bus was out of the loop. The OBD shows a 'powered up' light, and i have selected the right comms port, but when I hit 'test' in the software, all I get is a pop up that says 'initialising', then nothing.
I suspect one of three things is happening;
1. I don't have the correct driver (I used one which came with the OBD connector)
2. The OBD isnt the correct type, or
3. The FBH circuit board is dead.
Does anyone have any experience of this? I bought an OBD2 connector on ebay for a VW. I have since asked a number of suppliers if their OBD has k bus, but none of them have a clue. From the BS, all OBD2 connectors should have it, but is this the case?

Double-check the K line wire is to the correct pin in the USB/OBD adapter as I think one of the socket drawings that was posted is reversed.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Found this for you. OBD adapter:
Pin 5 - Purple here - to Ground (battery)
Pin 7 - Red here - K Line to FBH pin 2
Pin 16 - Brown - to 12V (battery)
Photo of FBH with connector in place to show you the location of the pin - remove this connector and connect to exposed pin on the FBH:
Pin 2 - Red here, only wired up on 2005MY cars - K Line from OBD pin 7
One confusing thing though, do you have a TDV6 as your profile shows a D3 5.0 V8 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Hi Martin, I certainly do have it wired incorrectly. The diagram I have shows pin 16 is pos, and 5 is ground. May or may not matter.
Pin Signal Description
2 J1850 Bus+
4 CGND GND
5 SGND GND
6 CAN High J-2284
7 ISO 9141-2 K-LINE Tx/Rx
10 J1850 Bus-
14 CAN Low J-2284
15 ISO 9141-2 L-LINE Tx/Rx
16 +12v Battery power

I was WRONG above, I swapped the Ground and 12V (fairly stupid mistake of mine) - I've corrected it now, sorry 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Success! I've accessed it. Thanks Martin.
Error codes say the unit had overheated and was locked out (my fault-I switched it on accidentally whilst changing coolant...). Now it says error 27h, Ground contact to the ecu broken. Am wondering if that's a fused thermo probe.

Relief. Was just a bad earth. Unit now working as it should. (Except for the smoke - trusting it will clear in time).

On mine it's a ring terminal under one of the bolts holding the FBH cradle to the vehicle, but I don't know if this is standard. The heater was installed as an aftermarket item.
