Regarding rear view camera

Taking delivery of a MY08 Java black HSE in a weeks time and are now in planning the mods for it!!

First is a front and rear camera! Going to use a interface from Hids4u.

Can anyone advice me which camera and placement would be best for seeing the Tow hitch?

Advice on a front camera would also be good!

Both need to stand roadsalts and water!!

Regards

Soon to be Disco 3 owner!

The camera unit replaces the number plate light, when i did mine i took the camera apart and modified it so the angle of the camera wassteeper which picked up the rear bumper and towbar (when fitted) its an easy mod to do and at around £17 for the camera not the end of the world....

There is an image in my gallery, under the disco section, picture 8, i will try and upload the photo to here, not sure how to on an ipad

If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

Stew

The wiring is easy and you only need to remove the rear tailgate trim the rest of the wire tucks away without removing anything.

Hi, Grunders,
I would like to change my camera position from the tow bar to the number plate to get a better overall view.
Can you please elaborate how you changed the viewing angle of the number plate camera?
Looking at those on eBay, where I would buy one from, they seem to be moulded into the plastic housing!l,
Thanks Bow down

Mac man, to do this you will need a aharp knife, screwdriver, dremel with a small saw blade attachment, solvent glue and a little silicon. I altered the angle of the camera housing rather than the lens

Firstly take the unit apart, undo the screws and with the sharp knife prise open the unit
Remove the camera unit and connections
To change the angle you will need to alter the angle of the part where the camera sits, i did this by cutting the sides of the angled part (down the sides and at the rear, i did not cut the front part where the lens is as i used this as a hinge)
When the cuts were done the rear of the angled housing housing could be pushed inwards making the camera lens angle, once the angle was right i glued the sides in place with solvent glue, the glue also acts as a filler at the rear of the slanted part, once the glue had dried i cut the excess plastic off, the camera was put back in the unit with the aid of a little glue, ensure the gasket is in place and put the unit together, i used a little silicon just in case,

Once all done fit to car,

I hope this helps, i dont have a unit to photograph, i will try and put a couple of sketches on here when i get to my laptop
