Well I dropped into AJS before my fitting day tomorrow to pick their brains on what tyres to fit on the new 19" hse rims.
Came down to either the GG AT or the Vredestein Wintracs.
Well after their advice and reading this forum and customer feedback, Vreds it is !
An awesome looking tyre with a great write up for wet weather performance and all year round use.
Cheers AJS and D3 forum. 2013 Evoque

Trip home on the new rubber was impressive - quieter, grippier on the wet twisty bit, tracks more precisely.
A great choice and awesome service by AJS.
Knocked on the door at 9am and was on my way 40 mins later.
Talked me through the fitting, stonking job chaps.
When the navara boots wear out I'll be back to you no question. 2013 Evoque

The boys do the job very well and they will be very happy that you are happy.
Sorry I missed you but had to dash up north, many thanks for your custom.
Enjoy your tyres.

You boys and your winter tyres all year round, cracks me up . But as I always say, each to their own.
My indie tyre supplier in Bristol is a big Vred. retailer, they advise to fit the Quatrac 3 to those who want a tyre that's good for all year round use, iirc it comes in D3/4 19" size.
Gets a good review as well:
With the UK being a true "all season" climate, people often ask if a single tyre can be made to work across temperatures ranging from below freezing to 30 degree summer days. To help answer this, Auto Bild put 10 of the latest all season tyres through the usual array of thorough tests!

No idea, only read what's in the link. But Auto Bild always state if it's a 4X4 test, so I'd guess it was a 2wd car.
Auto Bild also tested the Wintracs in their 2011 4X4 winter tyre test, but (unlike the Quatrac 3) didn't rate them in the wet, at least compared to the others tyres on test.

Wonder what difference there would be between an AWD running winter tyres all year and a FWD ? Would the AWD be kinder on the winter tyres allowing them to survive all year ?
Vredestein obviously recognise that they do work as an all year tyre by allowing their fitment and use.

Vredestein sell tyres to wholesalers/retailers, they don't fit them.
They do make Summer, Winter tyre and All Season tyres though. Have a look on their website.
From my own personal experience, Winter tyres on a front wheel drive car are horrible once you get above 15C (tyre spin and longer braking distances). Where as Wintracs on a D3 were fine, only negatives being that braking distances were longer and they got really noisy from 5mm tread depth downwards.
The majority of drivers aren't "in tune" with their tyres and the D3/4 cossets you and performs brilliantly on all tyres, so you'd struggle to tell much difference anyway.
Some say that braking distances on the Wintracs aren't increased at higher temperatures in comparison to the stock fit Pirelli or Goodyear. If they want to help me organise a proper comparison at somewhere like MIRA when the surface temperature is 20C+ then please do. Winner pays for the costs!

Vredestein also do specific all season tyres that are intended for year round use and are mountain/snowflake marked so up to the mark as winter tyres. I use Quadtrac 3s year round on SWMBO's Jazz and they are a vast improvement over OEM tyres in the snow. As said above, Vredestein sell Wintracs as a winter tyre, it's up to the individual that has them fitted how they use them.
PS as they say about quadtrac3s above, hadn't read that.

Well clearly Vredestein don't fit them.....
However if the tyre depot recommends them for all year round use then they must be approved for that usage by the manufacturer. I was offered the choice of tyres against my requirement for 1 tyre does all - I didn't ask for winter tyres but a tyre that would get me through the slippy stuff out in the sticks where I live, get me on and off wet grassy caravan pitches and work all year. 2013 Evoque

See - I told you!
Why not try them for a year and see what you think based on your own experiences?

Interesting !!
Was only a few months ago that we had the Vredestein Rep in and we asked why it works so well all year round and he did say they should have called it an All Season tyre as it's so good, but as they have the Quadtrac 3 this would not happen.
We have so many customers running Wintracs all year round with no problem, must dig out the letter from Vredestein UK re the use of the Wintrac 4 Xtreme all year round.
