Ever driven on wintracs through mud But to be fair, they're not designed to do so.
IMO, based on driving a D3 HSE shod with Wintracs and being a passenger in the same D3 numerous times. The wintrac is a good value, mid-range winter tyre. Good for on road use between October and March. You can buy better winter tyres, but you'll have to pay more for them. AJS always seems to have good stock availability, so if you need a replacement, it might be easier to obtain than a premium-brand. They have a loyal following.
Klinkhammer, I'd get a set of used rims and fit winter tyres on them for use in the winter. But if you're going to be going off-road then as AJS said in the 3rd post, Goodyear Duratracs would be better and they are rated as a winter tyre, with the mountain/snowflake symbol. But currently they just don't seem to be available.
For summer use, any of the all terrains tyres mentioned already should meet your needs.
Right, I'm off for a spin in the new model 911 now,

Nice to see another happy Wintrac user.
They were never the best in mud full stop but do a dam good job all round and in the winter are fantastic IMHO.
Very popular tyres as our stock is disapering fast.

a quite succinct pop-up on the GY site, so looks as if all-seasons (from them anyway) that have the mountain snowflake should be ok down to 0C but not as good as winters; which in turn they specifically recommend not to be used in summer...
Summer tyres are optimised for mild conditions. They can be used year-round in many regions, but performance decreases below 7°C.
Benefits
Optimal grip and handling in milder weather
Reduced noise
Limitations
Reduced grip in cold weather
Unsuitable for snow and ice
All Season Tyres
All season tyres give acceptable performance on wet, dry, mud and light snow.
Benefits
Consistent grip in warm and cold temperatures
Good traction on light snow and mud
Limitations
Reduced grip in extremely cold weather (below 0 °C)
Limited traction on heavy snow and ice
Winter Tyres
Winter tyres are optimised for cold weather conditions (below 7 °C). Treads are designed for high traction and braking force on snow and ice.
Benefits
Rubber stays soft and grippy in extremely cold weather
High traction on snow, ice and slush
Limitations
Dry handling is less than optimal
Prone to wear in warmer weather"
obviously slightly biased as they are in the business of selling tyres but you pays your money, as they say and theeeeennn......???
