Radio Problem

I have the base stereo system in my D3 and every now and again when I switch the ignition on the dash display says the radio is on but there are no sound. Adjusting the volume doesn't make a difference. I have to turn the unit off and back on again for it to work. Anyone else experience this?

Try getting the dealer to replace. Had mine replaced it stopped and started working in it's own. Also had a loud static 'fart' so they replaced itThey may try a sotware upgrade first. They did with mine but it didn't work. Smile

Mine has been back 3 times now for the same problem:

1st time they said it needed a software upgrade. This worked for approx 2 weeks before it started the intermittent problem again.

2nd time it has yet another software upgrade and guess what it didnt fix it.

3rd time I insisted they either change the power amp or the main unit. They changed the power amp and fingers crossed it has been ok for the last 2 weeks......but you never know.

Disconnect both battery cables and join them together with something metal. Then reconnect. Please ensure you do not touch the battery terminals whilst doing this. Oh and make sure the car has gone to sleep first.
In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

AndrewS,

Isn't that what you do to reset the service indicator on a BMW? I'll try it anyway.

Thanks

Has anyone else had the problem with the base model radio not being able to adjust the volume for a few moments after intital key start? It's quite annoying if my stereo was cranked up on the way into the office, then I leave for lunch with my boss and we sit there holding our hands over our ears until the radio is awake enough to allow me to turn it down.

Yep NW , happens with me.I cant remember if the " ON" volume can be set to a certain level so's not to melt your eardrums when ignition is turned on.I often have it at full whack as I drive in home and forget to turn it down before turning the engine off. Rolling Eyes

Ill need to study the radio section in the manual. The answer might be there!

Discovery3 radio dead - disconnect battery fix

I just got my disco3 back from the workshop, but the radio didnot work after the visit.
No light, no life, no music.
I used the "disconnect both poles after car has gone to sleep and connect the disconnected poles with a start cable trick".
Worked perfectly - THX forum members.[/list]

Tried the cable reset tip after my volume knob stopped working. Not removing the fault in my car Neutral

Is therea good tip on how to start seeking for the fault?

What would a software update do? Question
