Most people seem to think that mineral 2T should be used and not synthetic, although as I'm no where near an expert, I'd struggle to explain why. I was Castrol Actevo 2T, also sold at my local tesco for around £4.50 a litre.

Theres info on here that the fully synthetic stuff doesn't mix well, the 2T JASO FC rated stuff (Castrol Actevo - which is mineral) is generally regarded as about the best for the cash but JASO FB mineral is OK

Am I right in thinking that the issue is one of "ash" after burning?
Fully synthetic leaves more ash than mineral?
Either way Biffysun is correct when he says Castrol Actevo 2T seems to be the answer.
Prices, even at Tescos, vary greatly from £12+ per litre on the internet down to £2.87 a litre:-

I really cannot understand the pricing, particularly at Tesco.

Mineral is the way to go as I understand it. Displaced Yorkshireman.

Here's an extract (courtesy Disco_Mikey) from another post on here, it should answer most of your questions hopefully

Semi-synthetic low ash Jaso f-c is the best you can use...
...Low ash mineral is ok but not as good as semi-synthetic, full synthetic which is The Best[u] is a no go due to price.

If you are right I agree with above post ref quiter start up etc smoothed out idle ! But both my EGR's are fubarred so maybe my low spec mineral oil has helped them deteriorate ?
AIUI, Semi or Fully synthetic does not have the same chemical make up of mineral oil, and doesnt mix properly with the fuel. Again AIUI, it wont cause any issues, but is a waste of time + money.
The above may or may not be true, but all I ever used was a cheapo JASO FC (because I am a tight ! ) and never had any issues
The best oil you can use is a mineral JASO FD, but finding it at the right price proves tricky
Mineral JASO FC is the most commonly available, and is usually the cheapest. Currently £5 for a litre of Catrol Actevo from Tesco
My own finding were pretty much as others have stated, easier starting, smoother running, less smoke, slightly better MPG.

The majority will say mineral is the way to go.
So, if you could exchange it easily then you may as well
do that. Low ash, JASO FC is ideal if you can get that.

Did anyone see you
In answer to the OP full synthetic will not do any harm only good, it will only do the same job as semi-synthetic low ash, just cost more. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

No it hasn't helped them deteriote, with out it they would have gone sooner, possibly along with the lp/hp pump, injectors etc. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
