LR Roof Racks - Load Capacity

Hi chaps...
Looking in the accessories brochure at roof racks.
The expedtion has a capacity of 54.3kg - list price £599
The luggage carrier has capcity of 62.6kg - list price £282

As you can see, the luggage carrier has a greater capacity and is half the price of the expo which on the surface makes the luggage carrier a better deal.

However, the pictures in the brochure dont really show too much detail and it would appear that it dosent have sides and is qite a bit smaller. Has anyone seen these racks close up? Do you have an opinion about it?

As far as capacity goes, what can you put on the expo?...How much does a wheel and tyre weigh for example?

18" is 33kg Wink

I've got an expo and it's fine for my purposes and it detaches easily...but others have the frontrunner which is better contructed than the LR unit and perhaps a little more flexible for thing like roof tents etc but is a bit more of a fiddle to fit Wink

Just remember that the load capacity is not the ultimate weight the rack will hold but the strength of the fixings.... the roof rails are held in place by 3 x M6 set screws each - putting 50kg on the roof then braking from 70mph wil,l put a hell of a load on these fixings Shocked It will aiso raise the CofG, increasing the risk of instability during sharp manouvres at speed.
The rating of the LR expo rack is probably lower because of it's own weight contributing to the total permissible load
