ABS or traction control random activation
Hi chaps,
Swambo was driving around town doing the school run at a sweet 15 km/h crossing an intersection - a quick swerve to the left and the inside rear wheel abs came on - pulling the car violently to one side.
Actually happened to me once in access mode in a parking garage - sharp right turn to swing in to the parking bay and the abs comes on on one of the wheels. Both times its that grinding noise like when 4x4ing and in HDC.
Any suggestions? Normal or a sensor on its way out perhaps?
Or could it be related to steering calibration?
keep up the good work all you fundi's!

Have you checked the tyre pressures?“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

OK caver mate, very interesting - I checked the tyre pressures with an ARB gauge. One rear read 2.5 bar the other rear tyre is 1.6 bar!
How on earth does this affect the ABS/ Stability control. Does it confuse the system? This is very interesting, thanks for that.
...now to see if it works in the next slow moving emergency evasive action...

so did you check these pressure values are correct in the owners manual, I would be surprised if they are to be that far apart so that could be your issue.
however as I dont own a D3/4 I could be talking but that doesnt seem right on the pressureExperience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

It could also be the steering angle sensor as i had this happen before doing 50mph on a long sweeping left hander.Took it to Disco_Mickey to get other work done and he recalibrated the sensor and it has never happened again.

The low pressure of one tyre affects the ride height and rolling radius of the tyre, confusing the systemMy D3 Build Thread

Yup sets off the dsc a good warning of a tyre going flat.
If ok probably steering angle sensor. May just need calibrating. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

THanks for all the replies - and in fact both make sense to my current situation:
1. One rather low pressure tyre
2. I have just renewed my battery and therefore the steering sensor was adjusted by a very competant indy workshop. However this may have not been done properly - so will ask then to redo.
Anybody know why the steering sensors need adjusting after changing batteries? If it is done at the battery shop they would kep your car on constant charge whilst they are busy, but at home it is not uncommon to remove the battery for a reset etc.

Never heard of that needing to be done. I would ask for an explanation.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I have never had to re-calibrate the steering sensor after replacing the battery My D3 Build Thread

Can't see the connection. Ask the indy for an expalanation? Especially as they made it worse. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Thought I had better report back - after tyres pumped 2.5 bar rear and 2.3 bar up front I have had no further issues with the ABS - or is it DSC ? I will still have the steering sensor done just in case when I have time.
Thank you for all the assistance
