Jiggly Low Speed Ride/Steering |
|
I'm now a month into owning a 55 plate D3 TDV6 with air suspension. The car passed its MOT last April with one advisory on anti roll bar mounts. The car has since its MOT only done about a 800 to 1000 miles in my hands.
When its on the motorway or fast A road the ride is smooth and the steering/front suspension seem tight.
However at slower speed with bumps, one cobbled road and across one "dry" field it feels like the steering/suspension is very "jiggly" as though the front shocks aren't having any damping effect or have excess play.
I know at higher speeds the car lowers itself which will change the suspension geometry and possiblly compress the anti roll bar bushes. As this is the only D3 I've driven I'm now sure whether this is normal for a D3. Is it a characteristic of air suspension ?
Any views ?

I think this only happens at speeds of 100 + mph though.

Loose wheelnuts or worn bushes (check both ends as worn bushes can do weird things) Tony

Sounds possibly the lower wishbones - known issue with higher mileage and age.....
Loads on here about them.
Best way to tell is do about 10mph and check nobody is behind and tap the brakes hard and release. During the tap of the brakes if you get a "clunk" low down from the front it's most likely the wishbones. Best to replace the whole arm rather than the fluid bush....Oh and get tracking done at same time.
Good luck
Oh this is in my opinion....
