2014 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 XXV LE Auto Causeway GreyDiscovery 4

both versions extremely capable

i tow 2 tonne regularly with no issues on a manual just get comfortable with and use the low range if required

But if undecided i would say auto for towing purely for the no clutch worry although equally as many auto box judder stories on here

all other times for me i would chose a manual but thats just a personnal preference thing i find autos a bit boring as a driving experience but most seem to prefer ( maybe when i retire ) Wink

and yes ive had 2 autos Thumbs Up
MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car

England 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Auto Unknown ColourDiscovery 3

I tow 3 tonnes with mine, which is an auto. Have just come from a manual series 1 Disco (yes I know they are worlds apart) but from the towing point of view the auto is effortless. Really good at hill starts, which in a manual you always feel like you are trying to kill the clutch. Makes reversing a doodle as well, again because it is so smooth and controlled.

Only recommendation is to change the gearbox oil and filter every once in a blue moon to help it along. (damned sight cheaper than changing a clutch! Whistle )

That's an unfair comparison
I've towed a 'van with both a D1 manual and a D3 manual and they are incomparable.
