Jag or Peugeot block in disco 3? |
|
I have been looking at disturbing threads about engine failures and costs to mend! Quite shocking. I have seen a lot of cheap jag s types and peugeos with the 2.7 unit. I realise a lot of the ancillary parts are very different, such as sump etc, but is it possible to use a jag or Peugeot block and bolt all the lr kit on to it?

It's something I looked into around a month ago, and was told these are a few holes not drilled + tapped on the Peugeot and Citroen blocks, though the basic engines are identical...
Not sure how accurate that info is though. Never been down that route yet... My D3 Build Thread

I reakon it's worth a look! And a shot with a black and decker, could be a seriously cost effective option if only simple mods are required

There are differences between N/S and E/W blocks, but I don't know what they are.

ISTR that the TDV6 block differs for LR as it is adapted to ensure operation at extreme angles 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Jag unit was twin-turbo, LR only single. Sump/oil pick-up def different.

I was aware about the sump and pickup, I thought that was to do with extreme operating angles.... Would be handy if internals like crank etc and all the parts that knacker could be used?
Wonder if it's possible to replace the twin turbo setup with the single lr one

It shouldn't be too hard but you would need time and cash.
The internals are likely the same and getting one from a car shouldn't be a big deal even better if you find a smashed rear ended or sided one to be honest.
I think halving the service interval is the best option to longevity in these motors as they just get sooted up so quick and then the oil loses its abilities to lubricate and cool to a certain extent... FFRR Owner, very nearly became a D3 owner
Test piloted a new D4 XS SDV6.. Gone and being forgotten i hope!!

Also thought about this one
Cant see it working, as the engine management ECM will probably not recognize the 2nd turbo, so will need a Jag ECM, and need programmed to the car with the Jag diagnostics. Whether the rest of the car would accept it is another question...
Would be good though. Show up the RRS boys with their TDV8's My D3 Build Thread
