Better to just fit the complete OE HID Xenon lamp units, straight swap!

Don't know if this helps mate but I upgraded my D1 from halogen to HID using an H4 upgrade kit.
I've got to say, the difference was massive, a huge improvement but the kit did light the tree tops up as I innocently drove along and oncoming drivers constantly flashed their annoyance. I had to practically point the lights at the floor to avoid dazzling everyone. There was an inherent problem regarding the light reflector within the headlight unit, which was great for halogen but no use for HID.
Not sure if any of this is applicable to D3 but most people simply upgrade the headlight units on D3 rather than just the bulb light source. Wink

Thanks Beanie, most helpful, I have d4 lights in mine but I suppose they are all the same at the back.

should be easy enough, just get the correct lamp kit for the D4 bulbs and its a simple wiring job, the Natural Daylight kits are plug and play.

If it the same bulbs as the D3, my kit is now re-boxed and in the garage Whistle

The D4 has the H7 bulb in the halogen version
You need a 35 or 55 watt ultimate kit with canbus design
Disco315 is the discount code
Should have 55s back in stock shortly
Best regards, Ian

I did mine. Easy enough job, but you need to be careful when boring the big hole needed in the back of the headlghts, or you get a lot of swarf in the front of the headlight that you can't get out again.

The light output is very impressive, but to be honest, I used to get flashed by other drivers a lot.

Eventually I stumped up for a set of 2nd-hand OEM Xenon units. They weren't as bright (ironically), but no flashes from irate motorists anymore...

IIRC the D4 halogen lights are projector jobs so there should be little issue with the reflectors.

The h7r was designed to stop the glare hence my question.
