Maximum Wattage on std battery

Could anyone tell me what the max wattage the std battery/alternator can cope with on an 06 HSE TDV6.

I have the LR spot lamps fitted and will be fitting spot/driving lamps to the frontrunner roofrack.

Frog island are fitting the rack and lights but the quote for a second battery and split charger was just far toooooooo expensive...

I was thinking of 6x100w Very Happy (4 spots and 2 driving)

Thanks

Hmmm...don't think that the wattage is an issue, provided that the units are 12v .. The standard TDV6 unit is 90 amp hours so if you left the eingine off with all the lights on... then 600 watts would deplete the battery power completely in under 1.5 hours....but check with 10forcash.

Slimer, Ken2463, AndrewS, Gazavich and Chris200100 have all run their 6 auxillary lights through one standard battery...Slimers I know for sure were all 100watt KC's and Lightforce units Wink

Hi DiscoDunc, as long as you are not planning on running the lights while the engine is off, there is no real reason for fitting a second battery just to be able to use the extra lights while driving.

Any idea of what type of globes you are running. The reason I ask is that one way to reduce the load on the alternator is to use something like Philips Crystal Vision globes. They only use 55 watts of power but produce the equivalent of 110 watts of light.

Cheers.

2 x 130w KC's and 4 x 100w Lightforce's to be precise, all connected to my second battery (Optima Yellowtop) which is wired in parallel (but only when the ignition is on) with the main battery. Digital control box for the lights (and additional 12v auxiliary sockets on the roof rack) is ignition switched and will turn all lights of when the ignition is off so I don't have to remember to do it Very Happy The End

The main thing is to make sure that the wiring (both +ve and -ve) is rated for the current draw

Yep, with any high current set up but especially for lights, for the best results the aim is to end up with the least amount of voltage drop and to do that not only is cable size important buy equally important is cable length.

Less is best.

The cable should be the thickest convenient size and take the shortest route possible from the MAIN battery to the lights.

It’s surprising how much brighter lights can be with only a slight improvement in voltage drop.
