Please forgive me if this has been asked before but I have a rather mental sat nav screen!
I have a 2006 D3 HSE and the nav has always worked perfectly until I inserted a non-original, updated map disc into the drive unit under the front seat, a few weeks ago. This seemed Ok for a few days but then the touch screen started misbehaving, either not responding at all or responding to a different button on the screen. Sometimes it goes mad and its as if there's a ghost passenger pressing all the buttons like crazy! Mostly, it just doesn't work at all and stays locked on the 'agree' screen.
I took this to a landrover main dealer who did some tests and tells me the touchscreen in knackered and I need a new satnav module and that this will cost between £2000 and £2600. That seems steep! The landrover technician did manage to access some fault codes (I can't remember how) which he made a note of, but he didn't know what those meant and I'm still waiting to hear from him.
I have the TV module and this seems to work fine which makes me doubt that the touchscreen itself is the problem. Could the non-original disc have caused this? I've put the old one back in but it's no better.
Any help or advice would be appreciated. I rely heavily on the on-board satnav, as I visit up to 8 customers a day, and I'm (literally) lost without it!

put a dvd cleaner in the dvd drive under passenger seat for starters
touch screen can be tested via the screen diagnostics ( and calibrated )
may even just need a hard reset to get it working as it should G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Thanks Wiggs,
That was a quick response!
I did use a DVD lens cleaner before I put in the new map disc so I don't think that is the problem, but I'll do it again anyway. How do I access the screen diagnostics and perform a hard reset? Do I need a fault code reader which plugs into the diagnostic socket?

Wiggs, you're a hero! Did the hard reset thing and everything seems to be working OK. I'll know tomorrow for sure as I have a long journey with lots of calls. I think a big hug will be well deserved!
Another question. When I installed the 'new' map disc (non-landrover) it seemed to install new software and has changed the wording on the welcome (agree) screen. How can I change this back to its original status? If the screen is now OK, I'm prepared to shell out on a genuine Landrover map disc with the latest maps (2011 or 2012) so will this reset everything?

i have sent you a link
burn the ISO file to a dvd disk slowley
turn ignition to POSITION 1 in the car (not 2 so that the ingnition lights are on )
remove the sat nav disk from under passenger seat
put in newley burnt disk
watch the nav screen ...you should see a progress bar
its going to take 45 mins ...i suggest you connect a battery charger to the car while its updating
when the disk is finished remove and put back in the nav disk G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

The problem with the satnav touchscreen hasn't gone away unfortunately. Although it seemed to work perfectly after doing the 'hard rest' thing, when I started up the following morning, the screen was frozen on the 'I agree' screen and would not respond to finger presses at all. After about 20 miles, the system came to life by itself followed by lots of manic activity by the phantom button pusher.
I had to buy the TonTom app for my phone to get through the day!
Do I need a new satnav unit or is there anything else I can do? What about a forced software or firmware reset?
