MTR's/ off road wheel balancing |
|
Stoopid question of the day, but thought I'd check.
When using STT's or MTR's or other heavy duty off road type tyres, is it worth having the wheels balanced or not and does this usually end up with you having another 10lb of lead (or environmentally friendly sustitute) tacked to the side of the Rim? Do the weights get ripped off by off roading anyway? Bodsys Brake Bible

Yes I'd say its essential..get them to put decent lead blocks on rather than the stick on type 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Mine balanced up fine, used internal weights not 'tack on to rim' type. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

So that's two recommendations to have balancing done, but one for using the stick on internal weights and one for the clip on rim external weights...... what to do.....? !!!

internal would be less prone to being ripped off I would imagine... but then I can be wrong.

never lost any of the two-part external weights, they deffo need balancing though - unless you're goint to trailer them to where you want to use them and change there....

Sticky on the inner rim are best they will not fall off if the rim is cleaned and dry. The rim weights will get knocked off or may get bent and stick out then fly off going down the road, this may hit the windscreen of a mini bus travelling with orphans taking them to see their long lost parents. The bus may then veer off the road and crash into a rabbit hutch. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
