Key Turns but No Ignition

Apologies in advance as I have done a search but not found an answer to this question.

A couple of times now I have gone to start the car and turned the key but no ignition.

At first I thought I was imagining it but it has happened again today. The shift lever is in Park and otherwise as per normal.

Today it took a few trys and then worked as normal.

Anyone else had this? Perhaps the shift lock-out but I have had ignition barrels go on me before in other cars.

More likely the gearshift linkage on the side of the gearbox is stiff, causing the lever to not go into park properly.

more likely the inhibitor device in your key! Have you tried other key?

Thanks for ideas.

It's my replacement key as first key battery is flat. It seems to have excellent range when locking / unlocking.

The key charges itself when in the ignition leave it in for a while if concerned about charge
