Low battery warning survey help

Using the dash timed climate was only possible once or twice before it failed due to the low battery warning coming on . With a full battery re charge using c-tek it would then work once very rarely twice. The battery would appear to of been 75-80 percent discharged

Warmer weather came so not then an issue.

On first service had investigation by garage who felt the dual battery Traxide systen was a fault. Pointed out fault was there before this was fitted and had worked perfectly OK on RRS for 3 years. Subsequent investigation found landrover update on faulty battery monitoring systems and fitted new one.

Now it has been showing the low battery warning much sooner with the doors open or radio on without engine running than before, howver when looking to re charge it it would seem to be only 40-50 percent discharged.

I have a feeling reading some other posts that those using the remote control do not seem to suffer the same problem as those using the dash timer option .

Was trying to add poll to see if dash operation caused more problems than remote option and how discharged roughly battery was before low battery warning comes on, but it all has gone wrong , perhaps a mod could sort it out for me Thumbs Up

Remote makes no odds ....if the car thinks its got a low battery ... You'll get the warning and nothing works

Iv had this issue from new ... New battery monitor ... Even worse

Disconnected the second battery... Still the same .

My main issue is I can drive 200 miles ... Get out the car... Five mins later get in ... Low battery.

Alternator apears ok , battery replaced ( worked for about a month ... Then it all started again )

Even will all my gadgets ... There's only a black vue camera in the front that's off the battery ... All other stuff is on ignition

Random thought on one issue has anyone got any ideas on putting switch ion dash that could kill the system to stop it draining when doors are open etc

Wiggs: yours sounds worse than mine, suppose that should make me feel better Confused

Hi Wiggs, do you have any cranking battery voltage readings?

IIRC similar age FF's have the same issue and there has been a recall.

They basically replaced the batteries with AGM ones and changed the climate feature to run for 17 mins instead of 30.

A few found their cars barely warmed up in that period as it wasnt long enough to heat the water in the circuit and then transfer that heat to the air in the vehicle Sad

AIUI, the Disco 4 only re-charges to its last known level of charge (if that makes sense...)

What happens is that the alternator does not charge beyond the previous level, so a trickle charge is needed to get it back up to full capacity, and can then fully re-charge next journey

Which would tie in with your issue Wiggs, new battery and was fine for a while, but I presume you would have already tried that...

yes ...i give it a good charge every now and then ... then its fine for a few weeks .

so whats the work around ...i shouldnt have to charge my own battery ...and im doing about 1000 miles a week .

iv put my drop tester on the battery many times ..and its always low .

Tim ...not had time to do any real tests ...but chucked my multimeter on today and set to record minimum volts

10.36v cranking ( with or without the traxide kit attatched )

hopefully have some time tommorow to do some better ones Thumbs Up

Hi wiggs,

I also have a second battery in my LR4. But I disconnected my T-Max Dual Battery System due to very bad performance of the generator charging my main battery!

After a lot of investigation and lots of differenet states of the two batteries I have the conclusion that the BMS (Battery Management System) of the Disco 4 is to sensible for a second battery simply connected via relay:
- the voltage at the main battery changes because the two batteries are never at the same state
- the BMS will then reduce the generator power (with a full second battery the generator will only give 13,5V for example)
- so the main battery will not be charged properly

I only see the possibility to separate the two batteries with a 12V to 12V charger, which charges the second battery and reacts as a normal electric "consumer" to the main battery side. The CTEK D250S Dual has a lot of features, but it does the separation and has the opportunity to charge the second battery also via solar module.

Greetings from Germany
