To GG AT or not, that is the question !
Hi all,
I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a set of 19" GG AT's for my D3, but I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing, so I'm looking for some opinions.....
I have two sets of 19" rims, one set currently has Pirelli Scorpions on, which are badly in need of replacement, the other set of rims have GY MTR's mounted, with buckets of thread left.
I like the idea of having an AT threaded tyre on the Disco, which is why I'm looking at the GG's. However, if I do go down that road, my choices of tyre/rim combo would be between an AT & MTR & I'm not so sure how wise that would be. Should I stick with a road biased tyre for the second of rims, with the MTR's being the option.
Or alternatively, should I just not buy any tyres for now, put on the MTR's & wear them out for the Autumn / Winter & then revisit the situation again next spring ??
Any & all thoughts gratefully accepted, as I'm a bit betwixt & between on this at the mo'

I am in the same situation, but I am going the other way, I have MTR's on and I am 90% onroad and 10% offroad.
I have sourced a set of 18" rims and will put on either GG AT or Pirelli ATR's for day to day use and the MTR's for offroad days and green laneing.
The wagon just looks so good with MTR's on, so I have a dilemma. Maybe the GGs are better looking then road biased tyres, in my case.
Plenty of positive reviews for the GG, and ATR's but I am worried about future availability of ATR's where as the GG AT is a relatively new tyre on the market.
Tyre and wheel combination is always difficult, but what you end up with I know you will be happy.

You both know what I will say.............great tyres.
At the end of ther day only fit what you feel is best for you, IMHO looks should not come into it, sometime the ugly ones are better if you know what I mean.

Mmmm, I'm really leaning towards the GG's alright
Just that I have a habit of always over thinking things & I'm bothered about having two sets of tyres of similar type / thread.
But in my heart I want the GG's, while my head is saying no !

Are the newer GG AT tyres quieter on the road versus the old AT2's.
I had a set of AT2's and thought they were really noisey.
Need new tyres and I'm thinking Pirelli ATR's sound like the best compromise for road and winter use?

You must be talking about 255/60x18 as the AT2 was never made in 255/55x19, the AT is not noisy.

My experiences with tyres,i've had a few sets from AJS
18" Rims with GG AT2's- good tyre on wet/dry roads,comfortable ride and ok on snow/ice, little additional road noise compared to standard Pirelli Scorpions.
19"Rims with Pirelli ATR's-good as above,slightly harder ride but for me deffo better on snow/ice
19"Rims with Goodyear MTR's- alot noisier on road,ok on dry roads but can be a bit iffy on wet roads with a lot of surface water, but they looked great(Just remember they are a true MUD tyre tho)!
20"Rims-with Cooper LTZ Zeons,again a bit harder ride but bigger rim less rubber cushioning etc good on wet/dry roads,no additional road noise compared to standard Pirelli Scorpions,not quite as grounded on snow/ice as the Pirelli ATR but still very controllable and they look 8)

Got a set of 19" GG AT's the other day from Andy at AJS4X4. No increase in noise, very slight increase in consumption but I've yet to try a bit of 2 Stroke oil in it.
On road very good, slightly harder ride than the Scorpion Zeros, probably stiffer sidewall, which I like. I have noticed it slows quicker on lifting off. This is probably a result of the more aggressive tread and stiffer construction increasing rolling resistance and will account for the consumption change.
Off road - no more sliding down inclined headlands on the fields - result
I wouldn't bother fitting anything else it. Why not use up the MTR's and then put on the AT's and flog the spare set that have the Scorpions?

I have been running GG AT as my road tyres for 10000 miles and all is well, i dont think they are noisy at all, they also did last winter v well. i do swap to BFG muds for offroading aswell but havent managed to get any further then i can with the GG on
Hope this gives you piece of mind you have bought the right tyre
