DVD read error

I'm finding I'm getting "DVD Read Error" on the sat nav screen. This message seems to appear after about an hour into a journey. If the car is parked up for a while, it will work ok once restarted.

Seems to be a problem that is progressively failing as for the last few years it would fail on the journey to Dordogne once we'd got about half way down france. Now it's started doing it on shorter UK runs of an hour or more.

I dont think it's the disk as the disk will work ok for the same area once your've given it a rest.

I'm guessing the DVD unit might need replacing or servicing? Anyone experience of this - expensive?

Thanks

Paul

Yeah, ours stopped also at random.

DVD lens cleaner did the trick.

Just load that and it'll spin a few rounds, then eject and repeat.
It won't work as well as in a DVD player, but it'll do the job nevertheless.

( The one with the tiny brushes, not the liquid one )

MAP DVD - Read Error

Hi there,

Recently bought a 55 plate Disco 3 HSE.

All the electrics worked inc Sat Nav.

Found an LR Sat Nav DVD in the glove box -

DENSO 464210-5720 (2005)

Checked the one in the Sat Nav which was older

DENSO 464210-5280 (2004)

So decided to put thwee newer one back in...stupidly. I know, I know, if it ain't broke...

Since then the Head displays:

'MAP DVD - Read Error'

and/or sometimes

'The Disc installed is not a Map DVD'

I've tried:
1) Swapping the DVD's back.
2) Cleaning the drive with a lens cleaner and compressed air.
3) Buying the latest Sat Nav DVD
DENSO 464210-7550 (2012)
4) disconnecting/reconnecting the leads to the drive to power it down & then back up.

I haven't tried:
1) Hard Resetting the electrics by shorting the +ve & -ve leads from the battery.
2) pulling the Sat Nav fuse/s - not sure which ones and they're a bit difficult to reach without cutting your hands to shreds by all accounts.

Any other ideas please?
