Alternator WHEN ????????
Does anyone know what is the average mileage is that the STANDARD ALTERNATOR will last until it gives up the ghost.
The main reason is - its better to change it 5,000 miles before with a Reconditioned unit.
Would be good if other members on here could state their mileage when they had replaced theirs !
ie: 120,000 / 150,000 / 160,000 / 190,000
One of ours DS3 has got 102,000 - Dont want to get into the winter months to find its on its way out
Cheers

Mine went at 76,000, 6 years old. I do think that the amount of off-road carp in it had something to do with it

Hi Kingmav66

Hey Knigmav66
What sort of cost are they ?
Did you put a Identical unit on - or did you go for a upgrade unit 120 amps ? 150 amps ?
Wheres the best place to source a unit from ?

I personally would accept that it's going go, and either buy a replacement in to stock. Or get friendly with a parts stockist who keeps them in stock all of the time. If you've had your viscous fan off recently, it will only take you 30-60mins.
Yes I do think the off roading carp had something to do with it, to be fair it was full of mud.

I think my diode pack burnt out. When it went I had a strong smell of electrical burning.

I paid about £160 service exchange unit from my local Indy. Normal OEM unit.
Either get one from your local dealer/Indy, if you get a discount. Or from TLO on here, he will soon be on your speed dial
