Low coolant level SORTED
Hi
Yesterday i checked the coolant level and it is halfway between empty and full.
I have done 5k since i bought it, it is a 07 se with 42k.
Over christmas i did 4k and dont think it last any coolant.
Is this something to worry about? Or should i just keep an eye on it?
I did a search on here and wasnt able to find any posts on this.
Cheers
Fabio

its not sitting at the top of the bottle? Try undoing the filler cap and crosshead black screw cover to release the pressure (when its cool) and you might find it magically fills up. If not get it checked ASAP.

That's not so bad then, some people have had coolant leaking into there auto box, but you still need to get it checked, I see your in Somerset if your not far from me you could pop over and I could put my pressure tester on it and see if anything shows up Wanted D4s non runners pm for competitive price.

Glad its OK
Coolant leaking into the autobox is via a hairline crack in the radiator where it meets the gearbox cooler (they're the same part). If yours is high mileage and/or older get a test on the fluid at a autobox specialist or by post from http://www.4-tech.co.uk/
If its contaminated get a double flush on the fluid ASAP as it will wreck the box if left.Tony

Right then, next daft question. My coolant level also magically recovers (from nearly empty to just below the max fill line) when I remove the fill cap when the engine is cold. I undersand that this is caused by the pressure drop in the system but am unsure whether I should be trying to get the level within the operating band before the lid is removed? Seems reasonable that the level should be correct during normal operation otherwise how would the float be able to detect a fall in level with the engine running? If not should I be topping up the tank to above the fill line safe in the knowledge that the level will drop when the system is pressurised?
