New Blackvue, need some tips?

Just recently bought myself the Blackvue DR400, I've not installed it yet but was looking to find out what my options were to have it routed to a screen.

I don't have Sat Nav built in but what are my options and what's the best kit/wiring to hook them up?

Ideally I would like to use my iPhone or something Android based that way I could use it for other functions?

Cheers for any ideas in advance!

Thumbs Up

Hi StephenO

This thread may help, it shows how to hide and do a neat job installing a Blackvue. I 've done it myself and pretty straight forward.

As for iPhone, Pro Clip do some nice mounts.

I not sure what you are hoping to see on the screen. It will only display the currrent image (i.e. what you see through the windscreen) and does not do replays. So unless it is on the back window ... ... ... Question

I know what I'll see Stuart but as I said if you have an android based peice of kit you can download the Blackvue app to playback etc in the car! You can also use it for accessing Internet, Sat Nav!

That sound really usefull. How does one get the video into the Android? I had presumed it worked by taking the chip out of the Blackvue and inserting it in the Android.

If you go for something like below which is pretty cheap, you can just slot your micro card in! Thumbs Up

I've got the application on my Android phone, but AFAIK one has to physically move the chip from the Blackvue to the phone, which requires taking it out of the protective hard case. All too much of a hasle, so that's why I'm interested in your original question. Some way to access the chip contents without moving it would be needed - as one does with digital cameras.

The only way to do that I think is via USB and the Blackvue doesn't have that so I would assume that the only way it would work is to have an SD card with wifi built in but I'm not even sure if hat would work.

There is wifi cards now available to enable data transfer without cables!

Sounds like what we need is an OTG USB cable to connect the chip to the USB hole in the Android to save dismantling the case. Still have to get the chip out of the Blackvue though, so the WiFi one might be the answer. OTG cabe is £1.50, andone priced these wifi chips?

To use OTG one needs access to Root. So as an alternative way forward I prised case and phone into bits and stuck a Blackview chip in to try it. Only then does it tell me that the Android application supports only the HD version.

I don't think I'll be buying another one - jsy stick with viewing on a PC if needed.
