Double din gps cheap type |
|
Has anyone bought and fitted one of these Chinese type double din units? I have looked at all the options and think this might be the solution for gps, multi cd, etc. Poss rear cam?
If anyone has a specific model that was easy fit and no hassle it would be great to get advice.
Cheers.

Yup have had several over the years ..... nothing wrong with them when you consider the cost,you get a lot for your money
The LR unit if we are talking base audio unit is manufactured in R.O.C as well and frankly is a lot more flakey than the units you are considering.
Check my gallery for images , installed several for other folk on here and all very happy with them.

The conversion lead that adapts the LR wiring/multiplug to the standard ISO block connection can be bought off ebay - plenty of sellers. In addition the FAKRA to standard din aerial lead can be purchased from any reputable motorfactors.
Adapter Lead circe £8
Aerial Lead circa £4.50

Thanks for that,
I've managed to pick up the ISO cable and the aerial cable - but there's a second mulitblock coming from the LR wiring system and there's also another slot at the rear of the DD Din Unit.
Appreciate the help.

The second small multiblock,black in colour IRC, is not required ...... I am assuming the existing LR unit you are replacing is the base stereo single CD unit btw
The other slot you refer to would be to connect via non ISO block although depends on what make of unit we are talking,certainly the chinese units offer connections via both methods. Additionally could be to connect a multiplug with connections to rear camera,USB etc.... should tell you in the user manual that comes with the unit.

Hi guys,
I'm a relative newbie on D3 (having upgraded from a D1 300tdi - bit of a change! )
I have a couple of questions:
My D3 is the basest of base models, and has just the single disc CD player which, to be perfectly honest is a bit 'reluctant' to play most of my CD's and is probably due an upgrade. The handbook shows an 'aux input socket at the rear of the centre box, alongside a 2nd 12v aux power socket, but my D3 has neither!
Ideally, I'd like to be able to play the music on my mp3 player, so i'm guessing that an upgrade would be a fair option.
So, questions;
1. Is the existing LR wiring loom 'standard', or am i likely to need mutliblock converters?
2. how to I get the outer (upside down U-shaped) Audio/Heater control surround off to give access to the audio unit?
3. will i need a 'trim kit' to make a repacement double-din unit all pretty, or are they a good fit? (i.e. no huge unsightly gaps!)
Thanks in advance for your help. Apologies for what, I'm sure, are the stupidest of stupid questions
More on the way regarding towbars, wiring, and 'enabling'.... i'll try and put them somewhere suitable though.
All assistance gratefully received.

@Gobbler
Having the base D3 then this mod is one of the best you can do IMHO ...... out with the LR unt and in with a unit that will give you considerablly more functions,features and connectivty.
To answer your questions:
1. You need conversion leads as stated earlier in this thread.
2.race it has answered that one , if its the first time its been off then its going to to hard to remove, dont be afraid to be bold and pull hard.
3. Yes you are going to need a fascia kit, there are a few out there but from my experience they all do the job well and the fit is good .
Dependng on which double din unit you get a great upgrade for circa £250 - thats unit,facsia,mounting cage & leads. Pick your unit carefully then add ons like reversing camera,digital TV,additional screens in 2nd row seats etc... can all be done very easily.
Pictures in my gallery may help , PM me if you need more help.
