play in towbar - add weld to the surfaces to get a good fit

I have started to get som play in my removable towbar, like many others.

I have thought about getting a replacement, but then again, I am not sure if the wear is the towbar or the reciever ??? probably both.

I have thought about using shims to reduce the movement, but dont like the idea of loose parts.

As pr the title I am wondering about putting a welding bead on the surfaces and then grind them down to get a perfect fit.

Is this possible or is the towbar made of some kind of alloy metal which is difficult to weld ?

Advice and opinions ??

towing parts are controlled by strict(ish) standards
you cannot modify or change them.
options are only change worn parts.
It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Good point, but I thought this could be classed as a repair.

The only thing I am doing is replacing worn metal with new metal.
