Passenger door mirror and rear parking sensors. |
|
Hi there
Great site with lots of useful info.
I am a newby to D3's And to forums so please be gentle with me!!
I have just taken ownership of a 05 DSE.
The NS door mirror looks like it is in reverse mode (tilted towards the kerb) and the rear parking sensors don't work (front ones are working fine).
Had a few things that needed sorting (new tailgate handle and actuator) I have reinstated the twin towbar electrics as they had been removed from the car. I dont think I could get it wrong as they are LR originals and I think the plugs and sockets are all different (tested them and they seem fine).
Anyone have an idea of what the problem may be and if they may be related?
Many thanks

There is/was a TSB relating to the mirror not returning to their original position. Pretty sure the answer is a new memory module
It can also be confused by a very specific ignition/button pressing sequence
EDIT:

TSB# LTB00042:
Quote:
Automatic Side Mirror Dipping Feature
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Land Rover LR3 (LA) VIN: 5A300360 to 7A427985
Range Rover Sport (LS) VIN: 6A900129 to 7A999465
Equipped with memory seats
CONDITION SUMMARY:
MIRROR DOES NOT MOVE IN ANTICIPATED PATTERNS
Situation: Some sequences of ignition cycles/gear positions (involving reverse) can cause the control software within the seat module to become confused and lose the mirror memory position, or learn an incorrect driving position. A customer may complain of any of the following conditions:
• Memory mirrors are in the incorrect position after unlocking and entering the vehicle.
• Memory mirrors are not returning to their correct driving position after a reverse maneuver has been completed and the gear selector has been moved out of reverse.
• On vehicles with the 'Lazy Entry' feature enabled, the following sequence will result in the mirrors incorrectly moving to the dipped position:
> Ignition 'ON'.
> Select reverse gear - mirrors move to dipped position.
> Ignition 'ON' - auxiliary.
> De-select reverse gear - mirrors move to driving position.
> Lock the vehicle.
> Unlock the vehicle - mirrors move to the dipped position (INCORRECT).
• On vehicles with the 'Lazy Entry' feature enabled, the normal driving position may drift if the following sequence is repeated for a number of cycles:
> Ignition 'ON'.
> Select reverse gear (mirrors move to dipped position).
> Deselect reverse gear (mirrors move to driving position).
> Ignition 'ON' - auxiliary - key-in - key-out.
> Lock the vehicle.
> Unlock the vehicle.
> Key in - auxiliary.
NOTE: The mirrors may be repositioned using the normal mirror adjustment functionality.
Action: Should a customer express concern, install a new driver seat module following the Repair Procedure in this bulletin.
PARTS:
YWC500690.............Driver seat module Qty 1
If your car is out of warranty you'll likely have to pay for the module... Or apparently, you can turn off Lazy Entry if your vehicle is equipped with it, that's the cause of the "confusion" to begin with. My D3 Build Thread

Not sure what I have done but with a lot of messing about with various steps that you have outlined and moving the mirror glass physically it seems to have worked at the moment!!! thanks DM.
Any ideas on the rear parking sensors/PDC anyone???
Cheers

Do you get a long tone when reverse is selected, or just a short tone? Or is there no tone?
No tone would indicate a faulty PDC ECU
Long tone indicates a fault with a sensor, or wiring issue behind rear bumper
Short tone is normal, and indicates the system is active. It is not unknown for all 4 sensors to be faulty, and provide no feedback, yet have no faults stored in the system My D3 Build Thread

put it in reverse with the EPB off and move your hand close to each sensor, you should be able to hear them clicking, if one or two don't then it could be a loom or sensor problem. The outer sensors can be removed without taking the whole bumper off. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Hi again
3 out of the 4 have a clicking noise (bit like a spark plug arcing)
Not sure if the tone is long or short but it does make a noise when reverse is selected. The PDC light comes on and stays on (does not flash)
Perhaps the bumper will have to come off and check all the wiring!!??!!

There was a problem that LR were aware of where the mirrors pointed up instead of down. Not sure if that is the same problem as you have?
if it is, I posted a work around / temp fix for that particular problem.

On the parking sensors front, I can't help I'm afraid.
