Reading fault codes

I read somewhere of a way to see the fault codes via the radio display. Cannot recall if it was on this forum, and my searches are not very successful. IIRC one holds the right hand knob of the radio (looks like the volume knob on the left) for a number of seconds and then follow a certain procedure. Can anybody help, please?
