Thank you one and all.... I think the general view is that it looks good.
Wiggs :they did all the bits except for the door handles and back tailgate opener.
the door mirror outer's were done but the main bodies were left the same.
we decided not to do these parts to break up the "gloss" look at bit also the door handles are a real pain to get off.. of course mate I am prepared to tell you the price. the total deal was a stupid 600 Euro (450uk) , I have some really good mates
who looked after me here (friend of a friend type of thing)
qzdcg8 : correct mate ..
Sideview : It should last .. they guys that did the work used a paint and primer
process for this type of work. its very much an OEM process
ronp : `Cheers Mate , Thanks.
Jkp : , shhhh I am a dealer (just not in drugs)
Jakobvels : I hear you mate .. I would agree that the outer's are more fragile now ...but not that much more.
Doctor D : Likewise mate I hear you ... not the finish for you .. i dont do a lot of dirt tracks mostly urban roads ... so it should works out.
Keebs : not to your taste then mate.. , I like a bit of bling and not afraid to say it. what I have tried to do here is modify the look and style of my D3 to suite me. I think what I have done has worked very well.... not to everyones taste I grant you ..... but not "chav" ...... `i think we are a small bit further down the road than that.
Cliff H : cheers mate.
CrazyDave : Cheers mate.
Bodsy : yes mate I'll let you all know how it goes.. I'll have to start handing out
small packets .... how else am I going to pay for all this
DSL : no mate , Im going to get a silver one next ... I like to be a bit different that everyone else...
Stu : Badges bought and paid for mate .... no sign of them yet ... hope the postman has them in the morning or there will be slaps
10forcash :
you should see the size of the remote control mate.

Wow thats a good price ...im going hunting for a good sprayer next week when every ones back at work ...i new i should have it done from new !!
Did you remove all the parts for them to spray or did they do them in while they were fitted.
If you removed them were they easy to remove...
And sorry last question ...It looks like the step on the rear bumper has not been sprayed ..is that correct ?
Oh and do you have a picture of the wing mirrors by any chance ..just to see what you mean by the outers !!!
Thanks again ...and sorry for so many questions ..but it would be nice to know what can /can't ..should /should'nt be done answers for any potential sprayers. G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Hi Wiggs
no problems on the questions mate.
The guys did all the work , I did advise them on how to remove some of the trim
search the forum on how to remove the front bumper , print it out and bring it along with you.
might help them if they have not striped a D3 before.
All the trim including front and rear bumpers were removed , they had the entire thing stripped in about
an hour , the door mirrors were left on and were masked off. (the Disco looks a sorry state with all its bits removed)
When the back bumper was off , they removed the step from it (its in two parts) , the step was not painted
all the parts were then sanded down , once done they were sprayed with a special primer (its kind off like a white rubber stuff)
once this was done they sanded down again, they repeated this process 4 times to build up the smooth finish.
after this all the bits were painted in Java, (two coats) , then next everything got four coats of lacker all the bits were
then refitted back on the Disco . They also used various polishes and compounds to "cut" back the gloss so that
they matched the bodywork.
Just on the front bumper , as you know the center section is already painted. what they did here was
ignore this and paint the entire thing as one unit , easier to do (no masking) and a better finish
I'll try and get you a better pic of the door mirrors , its hard to explain you would need to seem them.
Wiggs ,the key here is that they must use this special primer (i'll find out the name for you) without it the paint will flake
away .Some guys don't use it because of its cost , and the work required in using it. also (you would be surprised)
make sure who ever is doing the work has an oven to bake the car in once done , some body shops use a cold process
that does not require baking , fine for painting the wing on you 98 fiesta but not for this type of work.
I hope this will help and if you need anymore info mate just let me know.
Cheers
Barry
