instrument cluster not so illuminating...

Help! For some reason the instrument cluster illumination is not illuminating any more!

Bought a replacement lighting switch as there seems to be a pin broken off the old one, but still not working.

The main light switch itself lights up ok, but the rest of the dash is pitch black...

Any ideas?

Cheers steve, will give that fuse a go in the morning.

Just can't understand why the new switch illuminates ok, but the rest of the dash is as black as the night.

Surely if the rest of the dash is dark, the main lighting switch would not illuminate either.

Is it just the dash that's not working ?

Do you still get illumination on everything else ? ( radio / screen / door switches etc etc ? )

I think it might be your dimmer rotary switch, mine does this very occasionally, and when it does I can bring them back by moving the dimmer.

Ok, so who's going to guess what happened next...

guess I should have known it wasn't going to be as simple as just a switch

Went shopping this morning with swmbo, both kids in tow also.
Thinks me..'ill nip to my local Indy for a quick chat'.

Said chat over and a number for a good auto electrician in my pocket, I attempt to drive away...
3 seconds later and a failed start... 'is that smoke?' asks the wife...

Censored says I as I open the bonnet to find smoke coming from the area of ones alternator...!

A small bit of swearing later and a chat with the indy.. I leave car and keys with him and we start the 200yrd walk to the nearest taxi office.

guess that also explains the occasional 'normal height only' message that occurs every few days...

Or (more probably) not. Whistle Whistle These cars can have more than one thing wrong with them at any one time. Thumbs Up Get the Indi to check out your compressor and/or other bits in the suspension. Whistle

Sounds like that comment comes from bitter experience... Shocked

is there likely to be any damage to the electrical system from an alternator going pop?

No idea re alternator, needs someone techie. Re multiple faults, not unusual for me, like one time heading to the dealer with two faults and arrive 20 minutes later with three. It's part of the experience or a conspiracy to keep LR dealers in business, take yer pick.

To be honest, I had the suspension fault once before after a severe dunking in a ford and it was also during the torrential downpours we had.

Assumed that the compressor dryer had got a severe soaking as after leaving the car for a couple of days in a dryer spell, all seemed well and the fault went away again. (suspension raises as it should and compressor was running as per normal, so thought no more about it).

Funny how the dash backlights (excluding radio display and info display) all stop working the same time the fault reoccurs...

Just have to hope the 2 are linked when he starts work on her.

Got to say though... only had the D3 for a few month, and am very impressed with both its ability and comfort.
Would go as far as saying its the best car I've had (regardless of current issues!) Thumbs Up
