Auto transmission oil flush/change
Hello, this is my first post, I've dropped by a few times to glean info and have finally got round to joining the forum!
My Disco 3 is coming up to 75k miles and I want to get the auto transmission fluid changed. Ideally I'd like one of the mega-flush type oil changes, but it seems a long way to drive to get one. I live in South Cheshire, does anyone know of anywhere local(ish) to me that does a flush type transmission fluid change (using the right kind of fluid, and is familliar with D3s, etc.)? Many thanks.

Okay. Is this a 'must-have', a 'should-have' or a 'could-have'? The reason why I understand but will having it done, say, attract women with cries of,"Look at that hunk in the D3. He's just had his auto-gearbox flushed!" Advantages and disadvantages would be welcomed.

I would only have it done if you get the "judder" when accelerating under load. So, a bit like Viagra, you don't need it until you need it If yours is not juddering leave well alone!2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

The way I look at is is this, I could have a 'standard' double flush done, which to my way of thinking is pretty much just just diluting 7 year old 85k mile AT fluid with some new fluid... or I could have most of it changed and get a nice new, clean bath for my gearbox. Thinking about it logically, surely a complete change is going to be better long-term? After all, you don't just drain quarter of your engine oil when doing a service do you?
If I'm wrong about this I'd very much appreciate someone putting me right, and explaining why. I shudder to think how much a new auto gearbox costs and how much labour is involved in fitting one... so I want to do all I reasonably can to avoid that option.Jules

It's not too costly, 7 litres of fluid, a replacement 'sump pan' and filter assembly, inc gasket and new bolts for can be obtained for around £160+vat
Not that a difficult job to diy, if you can do an engine oil change, you would find an auto box drain and refill quite straight forward
(not as good as a 'mega flush' though)Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k

Reading quite a bit over the years about the problems associated with the auto box judder. What would be the merits or otherwise of swapping some transmission fluid at every service as a preventative measure ?
I don't know if this is feasible with the D3, but in my old Volvo I got about 2 litres out through the sump plug and simply replaced what came out. Never had any issues with the auto box.
