On my way into work this morning I had the dreaded yellow light and EPB Fault come up, time to get my hands dirty again I thought. However when I put the brake on, expectting a sqeal, all I got was the message "EPB auto release not available" (or words to that effect). Has anyone come across this before, will it be as simple as getting that disabled?
It is a manual, and I only had this enabled a couple of months ago, it has worked ok but I do generally still use the button. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Mine started to give that warning prior to battery failure. Resolved after new battery fitted. I just assumed it needed plenty of juice to work and gave warning if getting low. Mine also started to give the warning when going through the start up checks. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Well it's still my original battery at over 7 years old so can't really grumble if that's what it is. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Dave, strange coincidence. My battery failed at 7 years and 100k miles. A friendly garage may test it. If you want to replace with a new LR battery be aware they are changing to a new type that cost about £250, but old style are probably in dealers at about £170. I went for the old type on the basis that another 7 years would do me fine! 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Just noticed another symptom, the gear indicator whilst it still works has delay, it will go blank for 2 or 3 seconds before indicating correctly, does this back up the failing battery argument? Joined the BMWX5 45e group

You might need to do the xy sensor procedure seeing as you have a manual

It indicates correctly, just delayed by a few seconds, last time was when I knew my clutch had slipped in deep mud and it didn't show at all. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

I would say start with the xy sensor calibration and have the battery charged but 7 years it must be past its best. A few mods... and keeping it all running...Faultmate MSV2
MY09EGR's blanked Thanks Bellautos, BAS
