Broken Air Duct

Whilst coming down the M40 yesterday I suddenly realised that there was no real power above 2000rpm and when I did press the throttle it was just a cloud of black smoke behind the car. This was accompanied with a sound like a noisey hard drive if that makes sense. Anyway below 2000 rpm it ran OK. Once I got home up came the bonnet. Can you guess what the problem was?.............. It was the housing that connects the throttle housing with the intercooler pipe. Part of the face that holds the large circlip had broken resulting in the rubber seal popping out and a huge airleak and the housing just starting to catch the cooling fan!! Oddly, the fan noise only occured after i had tried to accelerate for a few seconds. Anyway, Guy Salmon had one ready for this morning. Surprisingly the housing and air temp sensor only cost £21. Thumbs Up

OK, that will teach me to be too confident. Even though the new duct has been fitted and the obvious hole fixed the car is still exactly the same. It is fine at tickover and will rev perfectly in neutral, however, when it is in drive it will not rev very easily above 20o0 rpm and there are clouds of black smoke. No fault codes are showing. Has anyone any ideas??? What are the symptoms of egr's failing???? I can't believe that the new unbroken housing has not made a difference. Does the sensor in the housing have to be set up???? I thought it would be just plug and play so to speak.
Help much appreciated!!!!!!!

when mine did that it was as the intercooler pipe was split, and basically I had an air leak, have you checked there are no holes.

Repeat three times.... I am a numpty! Like an Censored I hadn't put the large circlip on correctly so the housing had moved and was allowing air to be drawn in from outside the system. Ohhhh the embarrassment Embarassed
