USB stick files
Newby here - Sorry if this has been gone over several times before. I did a search, but didn't quite find what I was after. With regard to USB sticks, can I just copy and paste my Itunes media artist files onto the stick and then plug it into the USB port in the cubby box? Or is that me expecting too much? I tried that last night, but the stick was not recognised. Rich

I think you will need to convert your Itunes music to MP3 format first. MP3 files play either from the usb or when burned to CD.

D4's audio system can handle MP3 files only. If your files are in AAC format (*.m4a; iTunes standard) you have to convert them (i.e. using the "Free M4a to MP3 Converter"). Files can be stored in the same folder hierarchy as iTunes do that, but be careful using long folder / file names as the display shows only the first 10 (correction: about 20) letters. Regarding the stick: some of them are not recognised by the system, i have a Kingston 8 GB and a noname one 2 GB that doesnt work. Other Kingston types ork well ..

I've used "drag & drop" to copy music files from itunes playlists straight onto a usb stick many times and they always end up as mp3's on the usb.
Maybe it's because the original files are mp3 and itunes just converts them for internal handling, but it's worth a try.Clive

Thanks for the advice. I guess as you can hardwire an ipod directly, I assumed Itunes MP4a files would be recognised. Not to worry, just aquired a 4th Gen ipod with a cracked screen cheaply via friend of daughter. Hopefully as don't need the screen, all will be well. Rich

as long as the ipod is connected via the LR ipod cable then you will be ok. I have my ipod Nano connected to this and it works ok. I have also got a 16gb memory stick connected to the usb socket but as said above the music tracks have to be in mp3 format otherwise they will not be recognised

As Woody say you need a genuine LR cable for the Ipod to work part number is LR031492, they are eye wateringly expensive from Land Rover they retail at about £64.00 but they often come up on Ebay or even here, I sold one here a couple of months ago.
Here is what the cable looks like

Thanks for that. Car came with a cable, but I didn't have an ipod, just iphone, which I gather gets itself in a tizzy over bluetooth.Rich

Provided both your vehicle and your iPhone have up-to-date software installed, there should be no issues with using the iPhone for both playing music via the hi-fi (cable) and for operating the telephone over bluetooth.
It is the later 2012 models that do have some issues but I thought there has been a fix for that now?2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

Ah ok, from what I'd read, I thought it was a problem across the D4 range with IPhones. ThanksRich
