Hi,
My tailgate has decided to play up and not open. When I press the handle to open the top part of the tailgate, I can hear the servo clicking but the boot doesnt open!!!
Any suggestions? Is there an emergency way of getting the boot open manually? Does anyone know anyone who can fix this?
If I have to go to a main stealer, how much is this likely to cost????

Welcome to hell. The end of the cable has snapped and you have to remove the lower tailgate door card and manual pull the cable or flip the latch to open. If you do a search there are some helpful pics on here. The new part is £20.00 from LR and a easy fit but getting it open is a pain.

For what it costs, buy a new unit for piece of mind. I tried the allen key method and after a couple of actuations the allen key pulled out. (The actuator is quite vicious) I couldn't tighten the screws enough on the block without breaking the block. Problem was, if I had reassembled everything and it decided to fail, the cable was too short to get to a second time. Then there would have been some cursing!

Breaking the block!  Mines worked for over a year now... obviously it depends on the workman carrying out the job and the quality of the parts  
Have to agree that a new actuator doesn't cost a lot and the allen key fix was always only really meant as a quick fix whilst waiting for a new one. I got my replacement from Nick and its still on the shelf in the hut. Haven't had time

All the best with the repair.
I followed the various instructions on this site and did a "temp" fix to mine over 6 months ago.
The hard part is getting the plastic trim away from the door surround to gain access behind the door panel to the cable
You need to be more forceful than you want to be!
A good tip I missed at the time was to attach a piece of string to the repair just in case it goes again.

I am attempting to try this fix but am struggling to get the trim off as I am thinking im going to break it with the force it's taking. Maybe I'm just a weed!
Might have to take a drive to see discomikey if I chicken out.
The odd thing was what led to the failure of the tailgate. My 5 year hold had my keys as I was talking to someone at the car and he pressed the land rover button a few times and then when I went to close the boot I realized it wasn't actually open and since then it won't open.
Top handle recently replacing and clicking away happily so I guess its the actuator in the lower half???

I can't be sure if your cable connector has broken but this is usually the issue, especially if you can hear the actuator working.
There is an emergency release procedure in the handbook, but if the cable is detached this usually (maybe always?) does not work.
But is worth a try as it is quick and easy.
In my case I used a flathead screwdriver and LOTS of force to prise away the plastic suround - I shut my eyes and hoped nothing broke.
It has left a few scuffs on the plastic and it does not sit in as well as it did before but you would only notice if you looked for it.
There was a well written procedure with photos which I followed (which I think I got off this site) for removing the surround.

Yes I tried the lock and unlock buttons together with no joy.
Flathead and close my eyes is the next step. Having a quick coffee to pluck up the courage to go for it!!!!!
