| Front Lower Suspension Arms |

Hi,
I have recently had fitted 2 brand new land rover supplied (local garage fitted) front lower suspension arms to my disco 3 2.7TDV6. However when I have came to have the wheel alignment done its evident the rearmost bush on both arms has significant play on it. I have had it back to the garage who have checked the bolts, which are tight. There is still significant play though when you move the front wheels. I spoke to the guys at Fews who supplied the bits and they say the only thing it could be is a spacer/washer thing missing. I've checked with the guys at the garage who reckon its on there and its on the outside of the subframe. However is that correct, is there nothing more on the inside other than the bush? I am starting to dispair with my disco as its caused me no end of bother. I'm gathering the rubbing noise as I go down the road is the tyres scrubbing due to the fact I cant get the alignment done.
Any advice much appreciated.

Even with new arms fitted there is some play in the bushes but it depends in what axis the movement is, as suggested above can you get some pictures.

I'll get some pictures but the play is excessive to the point it cant be tracked and they would advise on it on an MOT test.
The bolts were part of the kit supplied by Fews.

Have they assembled the washers correctly and also check they have not ground off the tab that the washer locates on to setup the castor angle if this is missing then your bolt can be anywhere it wants to be..

its actually in land rover service centre at the moment and they say there is nothing wrong with it and its all been put together fine and the bushes are fine.. but theres still momumental play.. is this the way they are supposed to be? Surely not?

I'm curious about this - my local indie is reluctant to change the front bushes due to problems with finding a tool that will do whatever is required. He is in a standoff with his tool supplier as he said he will only buy whatever it is if he can try it on this job first - no surprisingly the supplier isn't keen.
Is it preferable to change the front arms rather than attempt the bushes like the rears? Tony

Yes it's a lot easier plus you get a new ball joint as well and you don't need any special tools, I have changed a few lower and upper arms and never needed any special tools other than reciprocating saw to cut the front lower inner bolt off.

By the time you factor in the cost of the bushes, and a new ball joint, and the labour to replace the bushes, you are normally cheaper buying new arms My D3 Build Thread

You cut the bolt either side of the bush so the arm just slide out, so its in-between the bush and the main chassis mounting..

see this pic, (courtesy Disco_Mikey) it shows the lower suspension arm and at the far right where it is held in the carrier by the 'bolt' (bolt head visible). It is usually this (the rear bolt) which seizes in the bush, the bolt has to be cut on the inside of the carrier either side to allow the arm to drop out, its not that bad with a reciprocating saw (Aldis had one recently I think) and a good fine tooth metal blade like a Bosch BUT before you go cutting, MARK the position and TRY to get it out, you may be lucky!

mine has just got back from having all 4 lower bushes refitted at LR on warranty, due to when I brought it they replaced the arms, but it came up on mot as advisory as excessive play, so they swaped the basically under a year old bushes out of the wishbones, could it be a faulty batch floating around?
