Rear Diff Lock
Hello all,
After a D3 at the mo, and was hoping to get one with a rear Diff Locker...
How do I tell if it has one? Am after an SE/HSE so will have the screen, but all I have driven the center lock works (padlock locks) when you select rock crawl, but the rear padlock is always open.
..
HELP.
Many thanks,
Pete

Hi Pete,
Have a look under the back and check the diff - if it has an active diff then you will see the actuator pack and electrical connector.
The screen has the icon even if it has only the "open" rear diff06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
Any issues with the site let me know!

Martin,
When does the padlock on the screen 'lock' when you have a locking diff? only when grip is lost or what, I was watching an old (very old) top gear where Clarkson takes it up a mountain in Scotland and when he switched to rock crawl is 'locked' the padlock on the screen, yet not all seem to do this...can anyone clarify?
Thanks

Welcome Peter,
If you find one with a locking rear diff, treat it as a bonus as you will be limiting your choice of cars drastically if you Have to have it .... Do you Have to have it?
To see what lights up when may be go and have a go in a RRS as I think all Have the locking rear diff, well most if not all
Got a nice SE for sale as well just mot'd and serviced

its not standard on an RRsport - its always been an option - and currently a £750 option just like the D4 and D3 wasDuncan

Oh well I could be wrong then not the first time and no doubt not the last....
When we were looking to buy a D3 we also looked at sports as well I know for sure that at least 2 out of 4 or 5 we looked at had locking rear diffs, could have been more just can not remember it was a year ago so maybe more RRS drivers speced it?

locking rear diff will look like this, with the actuator on the top:
Behind the left hand side boot trim you will also see a Locking Rear Diff ECU, up close to the wheel arch
