Rear brakes red hot. 4th trip to dealers in 2 months

So I became a disco 3 owner 2 months ago and for the 2nd time in 3 weeks my rear brakes are red hot (smoking) on the drivers side. Back to the dealership again. (other issues the 2 times previous!) Last time they replaced all pads disks drums etc so what do you think the cause is now ? Unreliable epb no doubt....

It's a 58 plate xs. 50k on clock. Luckily all under extended lr warranty.

I would say your right, but for the same thing to happen to the same wheel 3 weeks after having all the rear brakes replaced for the very same fault....

What was replaced?? If you've got new calipers they'll be a lot shinier than the fronts. "All the rear brakes" could just be pads & discs. Perhaps they just tried to free up the sliders/calipers without changing them.

Did they just replace discs & pads ? If piston is sticking in caliper, they either need to strip it and clean it (unlikely for a dealer !) or fit a new caliper otherwise it will continue to eat your pads.
 Cheers Ian

Well that's a good question. They told me disks pads and drums had been replaced and they look shiny and new to me...

With binding the disk/ drums won't last very long either before they start warping and look red from excess heating. To me (as a non techie) the dealer is treating the symptoms, not the underlying problem.

I would say it is almost definitely the caliper.....just had one replaced on the wifes car with exactly the same symptoms....the whole wheel was hot Shocked ....only discovered it when I checked her tyre pressures and burned my hand Censored .......she told me it had pulled to the left for ages and wondered why her mpg had gone from 50 to 40..... I would take another look ... If caliper is new it should be shiney too Thumbs Up

If caliper is not shiney then its as DSl says they are just treating the symptoms & not the cause!!
 Cheers Ian

rear park brake shoes are binding having been replaced but they've not followed the LR bedding in proceedure.

Easy to see as the hubs will be a redish colour - answer - new brake shoes and possible wheel hubs due to them warping.

Had similar issues on the same side a few years ago after LR forgot to do the bedding in. Whistle

I would say caliper, when my EPB pads were binding the whole car was jumping about, as said before caliper will be obvious is changed and if the discs are discoloured again then they really should be changed again.
