I feel your pain fella,I've been there but I was Lucky enough to be able to do all the work myself still cost £££££ and I felt like you are feeling at first, but then thought im not going to get anywhere with Landrover so I didn't even try,I just had to face it that my car is 6 years old with 58k on the clock and its knackered,so I had two options scrap it or repair it,so I took option two and got it sorted and with help from Nick/TLO at yeovil Landrover with there great prices and forum discount I set to and bought the old girl back to life.

Regarding the previous owner
I have owned mine from nearly new ex demo always serviced it at 6k and done preventative Maintenance and the day she let go on a 20 mile trip there wasn't one second that I thought something didn't sound right or didn't feel right I started the car in the morning it was sweet as a nut 20 mins later and no6 had dropped a big end so I would say that possibly the last owner didn't know anything was wrong. Thumbs Up

Welcome to my 05 bottom end is s Censored t club

Really hope it all works out for fella keep us posted Not sure if DiscoDunc still has and engine for sell Thumbs Up

Edit
Embarassed Just realised I posted this on the wrong one, it was ment for dead disco/MSetubal

Alternative to £7.5k+

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RANGE-ROVER-TDV6...720wt_1034

Probably get it fitted for £1k-1.5 too. Looks like the warranty is better than what LR would give as well! Thumbs Up

I've been speaking to those guys, if you supply the timing belts and pulleys/rollers etc, they will time if for you for £60.

They cant tell you if it has the new style oil pump on or not though. Thumbs Up

I've gone for the LR engine from the dealer, together with the full set of suggested replacements. Hopefully it will be fit for another 100,000 miles once it's done - I won't be able to afford to change it now - and I may have to hide the final bill from SWMBO.

I can understand most of the additional bits that are worth changing, but what is it about the brake pipes? - I'd have thought that they would be fairly long lasting (I've asked for them to be checked and replaced if necessary).

Just (last week) had my front to rear brake pipes changed at 6 years & 93k, badly corroded was the description. It's supposed to be a lot easier with the body off, easier = quicker = cheaper, so they say. Sad

Are Land Rover using steel brake pipes then?

I've just had to replace the brake pipes on my 1966 Series 2a - some were the original steel ones - but I'd have expected the D3 ones to last more than 6 years!

injectors........no point fitting yer old ones over on to a new engine....BTW would consider going for NEW OEM not recon injectors

turbo.......would buy one yerself directly at around £650 from main distributor......

lastly I would personally stay clear of the recon engine unit if yer budget allows, so far my new engine has eaten NINE injectors since having the so called LR supplied recon unit in March 2012.

Its now got another injector fault code on the same cylinder that had been changed approx 30 days ago - dealership has raised tech support case and is going off the road next week to have a compression test done prior to it being replaced under warranty as we have rejected the engine as being faulty. Big Cry

hoping to get a genuine LR OEM 2.7 lump as a goodwill jesture if yer reading this Mr LR HQ Wink

You ever thought of running 2 x D3s so you'll have one always available when the other goes in for TLC? Shocked

TLC, my Censored more like total restoration Rolling with laughter

TBH I am now getting a wee but peed off with the whole situation of D3's, need for operators licence one week, not the next..... and shoddy recon parts from LR which seem to fail within months.

I genuinely thought having spent 10k+ on the engine and other bits that this would be the last of the big bills, instead a new front diff and complete prop came next, last week it was a complete rear cross member and new tow bar (£1200 plus vat for that alone) and now the bleedin engines FUBAR'd with only 30k on it - at least the old one did 471k miles.

Big Cry
