Think they are recon exchange units SOMEONE on here has one I'm sure Just can't remember who it was but perhaps by replying and 'bumping' it up you'll find out soon?

I remember it, DiscoDunc was ... had one for sale ... and yes, you can only change by a new or a used unit in good condition .. no cutting or repair possible or if there is very expensive and hard to find parts.

ok had the disco up on the jack and had a play with the wheels to see if i could hear any noise from the diff , well all i heard was a brake pad rub on both sides no noise form the diff at all , so is this a good way off telling if the diff is good or not . any info would be much welcome

Just grab the shaft and see if it moves...don't even need to jack it up for that. I'd also check the one that runs from the diff to the transfer case.17 Discovery 5 HSE Si6, Fuji White on brown | 07 LR3 SE 4.4 Java Black on Alpaca
