We opted for the Manual but our loaner is an Auto and I am beginning to wish that we had gone for the easy shift and am now not looking forward to giving it back.
Oh and I think that the leather seats are more comfy and easier to keep clean.
So I just wondered how many of the folks here have which transmission.

Have always driven manual cars, had a manual Freelander so the natural progression was manual Discovery 3.
Friend of mine has a auto and swears by it, so I guess until I drive the auto can't really make any real comment  Jim

I'm a control freak so it had to be the manual! can't imagine it won't be better than my manual d2.... hopefully! and theeeeennn......???

Auto's are really nice especially if you drive them with the cruise control all the time. Like sitting at home watching the world go by.

I don't know if it's me but our Auto loaner is a lot faster off the line than our manual.
1st then 2nd is a bit of mucking about then it zooms off, the manual that is. Maybe it is because our car has hardly any miles on the clock.

No it is just down to gears. Obviously a auto with smoothly change and at low speeds you have to manually transfer, which does cause a slight delay. Use the torque though. Basically move off in 1st, count 1,2 & 3 then change and make the car work. That should do the trick. Over revving actually slows the car down.
Use first as a start gear. To practice start in low range 3rd and then select neutral, flick up to high range and put the gear into 1st high, you should have the same gear, but it will give practice in gear changing from high to low and speed up your normal changes.

No, its an auto for me. Can't be doing with clutches and modern day traffic jams, they are simply not compatible. The auto box is the best set-up I have ever driven.

Auto so smooth but MPG definitely much more depressing! We are getting 25-26 MPG after approximately 4000 miles. But I feel that having a safe, smooth family carrier well worth it. I still have occassional twinges when remembering the 40mpg we use to get with our Galaxy.

Auto EVERY time
I (sadly) use mine a lot in traffic - Manual would be a nightmare
Also guess residuals higher? Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.
