Italy 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Manual Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3
Disco 3 Preheater

Hallo From Italy. I own an old reliable Disco Tdi and I'm the process of selecting a new Disco3 TDV6. I am reading on the "welcome" thread, that Disco 3 should have a stock fitted preheater unit.

No one of the sellers i spoke to mentioned this, nor is the point mentioned in the brochures i brought home. I did not have the bonnet opened to look inside to the motor bay, though.

The point is, i have bought a Webasto ThermoTop C unit last year, waiting to have it fitted to the new car i was going to buy. It would be ironic that my new car has it stock already.

Is this an optional or is it stock in all UK models?
Do u happen to know the make of the unit? DOes it have remote control?

Thank you for any reply, ciao

Mine is an HSE model, and it has a Webasto pre-heater as standard. It seems to be a bit of an issue at the moment, because mine, and it would appear others, don't seem to work very well.

The only mention I have found of the pre heater as standard fit is on Land Rovers website - if you use the "Build your vehicle" section, then the HSE shows the pre-heater as a standard item. It does not seem to mention it is the brochures.

Whats worse is that the user manual for the vehicle has only one paragraph on the heater, it tells you to ensure that it is switched off before you refuel, it does not tell you how to do this! It also does not mention anything about using the timer settings in the driver settings menu. The timer does not work on my car and the dealer was not much help either.

I have asked my dealer to get in touch with Land Rover tech support and find out some answers. I'll post as soon as I get an answer.

Maybe this post should be in the Technical section?

Thank you for your reply.

I was more oriented toward the SE, as the HSE has more luxury than i want to afford. I will investigate if the SE has a Webasto too.

I have checked the build your vehicle section on the italian website, as far i have seen it concerns more the external accessories than the fittings.

Ah - and, are your windscreen washers heated also?

The cold climate package on the italian brochure says it warms seats, windscreen and the headlamp (!) washers.

Thanks, ciao

Wow, you got a workshop manual! where from?

Anyway, the description you give is almost accurate, except the minutes selection is not separate from the hour selection on mine. Mine also does not have the pre-cool option (bit unecessary in the UK me thinks!)

But it still does not work. I am still awaiting a response from my dealer. They agree that there is a software fualt, but Land Rover does not appear to have released an update yet.

The anwser is simple it does not have a vital component and will not work with the preset programs. It requires a unit called a 'Fan Top' to be fitted and then it will work, but not from the pre set controlls in the car. No plans by LR to get the pre-heater to work for at lease 3 more years.

What the Webasto in the car does is add heat at below 7C to help the car heater.

How do I know, because I have done a tremonedous amount of work with Webasto and should have had a Fantop fitted, but my car broke down. It is next on the agenda now.

....

Brian, what is required to get the heater to work with the pre-set controls (after fan top installation)?

A small wiring harness that has to be designed yet and a keyring control fob.

GTR and it really shouldn't be posted on here, its publicly accessible for a fee but shouldn't be 'reproduced'

Must be tired of waiting for Gareth to come back from his dealers with an update.... Smile

I'm still waiting for it to be cold enough to see if the one on my 'S' works. Won't be long off from now I'm sure.

thanks; am considering a carefully worded letter to LR regarding lack of functionality.

DrLex, it has been done already by one of the members and the result was not to good. If you look through some early postings you may find all the many items about it.
