Keeping bluetooth active after stopping engine

Hi All,

I've recently got a 2012 Discovery 4 HSE. The bluetooth system is working well with my phone but I've discovered that the phone system switches off shortly after stopping the engine even if I've got a phone call in progress.

My previous car would keep the bluetooth phone system active until the call ended even after switching off the engine. Is there a setting on the Discovery to make it do the same?

Thanks.

The BT module is powered from the ignition switch and thats why when you go far enough from the car with your key it stops working.
Its done this way because the car needs to go to sleep and if this was powered all the time the car would not go in to sleep mode and would flatten the battery over night .

I did try to wire my own D3 this way and sure enough my battery was flat in the morning.

Wiggs is the man to ask for this one he might know a way of doing it.

Flack Thumbs Up

Normally turning of the key disconnects the Bluetooth on a D4

However if your on a call it should stay connected till the call is ended .

I will check mine for you tommorow when I get home ...Just to double check Thumbs Up

Thanks for the replies - the bluetooth did stay on for a minute or two after stopping the engine (with the button Wink ) but then switched off without warning whilst the call was still active. The phone didn't disconnect the call so I had to rummage in my pocket to find the phone to keep talking.

I'm just surprised that it hasn't been designed to stay on for as long as the call is active and then go to sleep when the call is disconnected.

I have kept calls going for ages on my D4 after I have stopped the engine, no problems at all, it has never switched off the BT module until I have finished the call. Maybe a S/W update?

maybe yes, mine was doing it intermitent, was annoying...now keeps the bluetooth on while I'm talking and shuts off when the call is finished. only a 48.000 revision was done between the two behaviours...

SW upgrade? or maybe a reset? maybe a alignment of planets?

who knows..who cares...LR rules!!!! I love my car!!! this sort of things make it SPECIAL!! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Thanks for the input - I'll have to test it some more. It might be a glitch with the phone dropping the blue tooth connection and so the car thinks its job is done and it can go to sleep.

At least now I know that it should work as I expected and that I'm not just missing a setting somewhere.

Mine doesn't disconnect mid call either - get it checked out.

The car will shut down the av stuff after 10 minutes with the engine off though (even if the 'key' is in the car), which is quite irritating when watching telly waiting for SWMBO!

I think that this is what is happening - I was waiting for "herself" to emerge from the supermarket today Yawn and the radio kept turning itself off every 10 minutes. This is about the same time after stopping the engine that it turns off if I'm on a phone call. It's probably the same thing.

Is there any way to keep the audio system on continuously for more than 10 minutes without the ignition on or the engine running?

I suspect that this is just a software setting that the dealer would be able to change so probably worth asking them. Mind you, I asked my dealer to do it and they looked at me as if I had just asked them to disable the brakes!

I think it is something set to force the car to enter sleep mode, otherwise it won't shut down properly and will flatten the battery. Probably just a case of extending the timeout to something less irritating than 10 minutes rather than disabling anything completely. Perhaps it would be possible for someone with a Faultmate to do?

Let me know if you can get your dealer to do it and I will go back to mine!

PS: mine keeps Bluetooth call connections active even when the av gear shuts down (the 12v sockets will power down at the same time)
