Detailing General cleaning.

Have a question! What is the overall paintwork like on landrovers, as in does it last?

This is the first time I have owned a landrover and wanted to know due to the use of the car will it benifit from a monthly detailing? Or is the paintwork of a higher standard that a general clean is good enough?

I've read many posts saying "it's a landrover it's ment to be dirty" your not in a sports car why spend the money! And I get that but want this D4 to last!!!

Supaguard/Pureguard treatments or the like are worth considering, will help protect your paintwork for many years....

IMHO if you want your D4 to last:-

1. Change engine oil & filter at half the service intervals; otherwise stick to the service schedule.

2. WaxOil the underside ASAP.

3. Protect the carpets with overmats & possibly the seats with covers.

4. Use best quality diesel such as Shell or BP not supermarket fuel.

Enjoy it.

I used Rustmaster at Hatfield, Hertfordshire and found them to be excellent.

Some good advice there !

Definately look at interim oil changes Thumbs Up
And as for protecting the paint you can use something as simple as Auto Glym Extra Gloss Protection
It will give the bird muck, tree sap and pollutants and other contaminants something to sit on instead of your paint,
As for the finish ? I don't know ? Sorry ! But there are loads of products that will work the auto Glym stuff is just dead easy to apply and it doesent take any rubbing in.
 Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Compared to other marques, I think the paint is as good, if not better.
A regular wash with Autoglym Shampoo, regular Aqua wax, periodic Resin polish, periodic Auto Glym Extra Gloss Protection seems to work well enough - Started using Billberry juice on the wheels which is best wheel cleaner I've used - my 5 year old D3 looked great when I sold it in 2010 and D4 looks fantastic when washed.
Not sure what seats you have but I treat the leather with Gliptone conditioner every few months

Agree with most points except the diesel.
Diesel is diesel surely and it doesn't matter where you buy it! It's not like it's a highly tuned petrol engine with specific octane requirements!

Be aware that cheap diesel will barely meet the specs; that is why it is cheap.
I only run on BP premium or Caltex (Aussie brand) premium as I have found both the diesels we own D4 3.0 and VW Golf 2.0 perform better on premium fuel and the economy is better.
I have also had pump failure on another vehicle I owned a while back which I believe was due cheap diesel.
We drive luxury high performance vehicles, so why feed them anything less than premium fuel.

I don't call myself an expert on fuel, just had an eye opener a few years back when I worked at coryton refinery in Essex. And being surprised when veiwing all the different suppliers including the supermarkets queuing up at the same pumps to fill their tankers!!!!

My Inital reaction was "oh the cheeky so and so's" insert lots of swear words!! Lol

But it was explained very generally , it all about the addertives !! Your high priced premium fuel get all the fancy ones, that may or may not do what it says on the tin Whistle , lower priced supermarkets get less. So it's the same refined fuel just finished differently!

But saying that it is funny seeing them all filling up in the same place, as you do think straight off "*€$%+$¥"


Edit ** just reading that back I'm not sure where I thought the supermarkets got their fuel maybe by magic !! Lol
