Hi Guys.
Sorry to drag up and old thread but my Disco is doing exactly this. It will only give the key back if the sidelights are on and it randomly pops up Transmission Fault on the dash. (Code is park switch)
I’ve followed the guide today and found that splice but mine is in great condition. Does anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks

Anyone? Please help! This is driving me crazy . Really don’t want to put the whole thing back together and not have solved this 🙁🙁
SAME HERE. I've a LHD and had both sides open but all looks brand spanking new and bone dry. Teased out loom to individual wires but no corroded anything!
To those that have fixed, what are the wires they repaired. Being slightly colour blind doesn't help but but trying to get my head around what components are contributing to flagging a transmission fault when moving into D with the lights off! and why I need the lights on to remove the ignition key!
Any help really appreciated as I have a very long drive comming up in two weeks!

Seem to remember a couple of threads on stuff like this, and some people had talked of intermittent issues, but the slices looking in good condition when they investigated them.
Some went ahead and cut and resoldered anyway, and most seemed to suggest this cured the problem.
Suggestion was that the joints were ‘dry’ and needed to either be rewet or cut out and replaced.
Cant comment on this from personal experience has I haven’t had this issue yet. Only a matter of time, probably.

Snap!
Hey guys,
Long time listener, first time caller.
A huge thank you for this info. This is such an idiosyncratic problem and without this information I would never have been able to find the solution. It is not a problem we normally get in Australia due to the lack of snow and salt on our roads so nobody I know had seen it before. My Disco 3 is a GS...dead giveaway that it is a private import from the UK ... so it made sense when I found the symptoms matched. The wire was exactly where described and in the state described; dissintergrated and oxidised with no contact whatsoever. Patched, soldered and sealed. No more fault, keys come out and I dont need to turn the lights before starting. Very Happy.
I had a similar problem with a park brake fault message and amber light. Turned out to be a broken wire 10mm from the Park brake module plug causing an open circuit between chassis plug and EPB module.
Big ups and thanks to the Landrover whisperers here.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Hello, all. This is my first post on here and I'd like to thank this forum for all the helpful information I've gleaned.
I have a recently acquired 2007 V8 with autobox and I have a very similar problem, with the exception that turning on the sidelights doesn't have any effect. I am getting code P081C-00 (6D) on the gap tool. If I start the car in neutral and then select drive I get no fault, but if started in park and then drive is selected I will get the fault. When I try to select sport mode or command shift I get nothing- nothing in the message center and nothing on the left of the screen where the current gear is normally displayed.
Could this still be the splice issue, and if so which side of the car (USA /LHD) should I look?
I have been trying to find the gearbox splice for P1800 fault
I have previously done the remote locking splice before so, I know what I am in for,
Lifted the loom at the front passenger side between the A post and seat. and picked through the wires 1 by 1 to make sure. Based on the photos from J12 Engineering I knew the area to look in, roughly where the green arrow is, but there is no splice. Repeated the exercise further forward closer to the A post, and again nothing. The only splice with purple is the one I have arrowed yellow towards the bulkhead, but it is not purple/pink, it is plain purple 2 wires in, 3 wires out.
Any suggestions?
the car is a 05 HSE 4.4L, and the information from this forum to solve every other niggle has been spot-onAll LED interior
