Thanks Mike, will try that later and report back. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Failing that, it sounds like a wiring issue someplace...
Ok, had the lights out front and rear, still getting the problem. Should mention that Autologic is recording a comms error on the transmission ECU (per a visit to my local indy a few weeks back to correct a little faux pas when they replaced my front lower wishbones ). I've replaced the A-pillar trim previously due to loose fit and had the battery out a couple of weeks of weeks back to check all the ECU plugs and everything is like new in there.
I guess next step is to check the plugs on the selector and park brake interlock, then sit with a pint in my hand scratching my head I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Actually there may have been a cheeky beverage spilt in that vicinity on the PNC. I may or ay not have been laughing about anothere competitor's predicament at the time I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this issue Alan?
Mine is giving Transmission Fault as soon as D is selected. Its ok in R & N & P but once D is selected, it faults and won't allow sport or command shift.
Turning on the sidelights makes it all OK.
Wendy has reported that she occasionally can't get the key out recently, although I can't repeat this.
Even with the engine off, just the ignition on, just moving the gear lever, as soon as D is reached, I get the error.
Drives perfectly normally, I can select low/hi and terrain response is functioning. All brake lights working.
Any ideas?
Bloomin' thing must have sussed out I'm selling her

I eventually got to the bottom of this issue! (though not on your car )
It is a corroded splice joint in the N/S/F footwell. Seen this issue twice in 2 weeks, and both cars had the same fault in the same place
